The DeKalb County Health Department and Justin Potter Library will be offering classes on “Take Charge of Your Diabetes”. This is a free six-week, two hour workshop starting Wednesday September 16th, and continues each Wednesday until October 21st, from 12:30p.m.-2:30p.m. at the Justin Potter Library. Semi-Annual “Masquerade Jewelry Sale

Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital will host the Semi-Annual “Masquerade Jewelry Sale” Monday and Tuesday, August 31st, 7am to 6pm and
September 1st, 7am to 3pm. All Jewelry and items are $ 5 dollars and the event will be in the classroom. Just follow the sign thru the
hospital. These items make great gifts for teachers, children and adults. All proceeds will go toward our annual boys home Christmas party.

Youth Dove Hunt

A Youth Dove Hunt will be held Saturday, September 5 from 2:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Registration will be from 1:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m.

"The Youth Dove Hunt is for kids ages 10-17 years old. We'll have 40 staked positions," said TWRA Officer Joe Fortner. "The Dove field will be on the southern end of the county toward McMinnville Highway. I'll give you directions to the hunt after you get registered. You can register to me through email at You may also reach me by phone at 615-294-5440. The hunt will be September 5th. Registration will be from 1:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. and the hunt will be from 2:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Everyone participating must be hunter education certified. You need to have the appropriate license, a plugged shotgun, and eye and ear protections. If you would like to participate, shoot me an email," said Fortner.

A Four Person Golf Scramble to benefit the DCHS Golf Program will be held Labor Day, Monday September 7 at the Smithville Golf Course. The cost is $75 per person which includes lunch, mulligans, and red tees.

DAC presents "The Civil War in DeKalb County" by Thomas G. Webb

The DAC presents "The Civil War in DeKalb County" by Thomas G. Webb, DeKalb County Historian on Saturday, September 26 at 7:00 p.m. at the DeKalb County Complex Auditorium. Adult admission is $10 per person and $3.00 for all students. Proceeds from the evening's entertainment will go to the DeKalb Animal Coalition, a tax deductible organization dedicated to building a new animal shelter for our community. The Civil War ended 150 years ago in April, 1865. So why do hard feelings related to that war still linger?. Why did so many DeKalb Countians join the Union Army? Why did DeKalb County civilians experience such intense and prolonged suffering? Why did some DeKalb Countians first join the Confederate Army and subsequently join the Union Army? What was life like for Prisoners of War? Confederate flag controversy: One Historian's Perspective.
