DeKalb Junior Pro Basketball Signups

DeKalb Junior Pro Basketball signups will be held in the main lobby of the DeKalb County Community Center on October 3, 5, 9, 12,& 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The cost is $30 to be paid by cash or check at the time of signup. Last minute signup will be October 28 from 10 a.m. until noon at Northside Elementary School before tryouts which will begin at noon. Each age group will have a different tryout time. Please like us on Facebook@DeKalbCountyJrPro for each individual age groups tryout time. The Facebook page will be updated regularly to keep everyone as up to date as possible. Due to the season starting earlier than usual no late signups will be accepted. Please mark your calendar and make sure your child is signed up before the deadline. Please keep in mind training league is the only league where boys and girls play together. All other leagues are separate with a girls and boys' division. You can also play your child up in age group but will not be able to play down. Age divisions are as follows: (Training League-Kindergarten and 1st grade), (2nd & 3rd grade), (4th & 5th grade), and (6th, 7th, & 8th grade), If you have any questions or are interested in coaching you can give Matt Quarles a call at 931-979-7339. Open House at LBJ & C Smithville Head Start Center

The LBJ & C Smithville Head Start Center will have an Open House on October 27 from 1-4 p.m. at 118 Kimberly Lane. The staff and parents are looking forward to showing their center and the children's arts and crafts. Head Start provides children with activities that help them grow mentally, socially, emotionally, and physically.

Free Tai Chi for Arthritis classes for Senior Citizens

UT Extension Agent April Martin will be holding free Tai Chi for Arthritis classes for Senior Citizens at the Senior Center during the month of October and November. Tai Chi has been proven to be very effective for arthritis and fall prevention. The classes will be held from 9 – 10:00 am each Tuesday: October 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, and November 7. There is no charge for the six week class. The only requirement is that participants are Senior Citizens. The classes will be held in the Senior Center at the DeKalb County Complex.

L.B.J. & C. Head Start is currently accepting applications to provide free comprehensive child development services to children 3-5 years of age from low-income families in a full-day program. Services are also offered to meet the special needs of children with disabilities. L.B.J. & C. Head Start helps all children succeed.

L.B.J. & C. Head Start provides children with activities that help them grow mentally, socially, emotionally, and physically. The L.B.J. & C. Head Start recognizes that, as parents, you are the first and most important teachers of your children. They will welcome your involvement in L.B.J. & C. Head Start activities and will work as partners with you to help your child and family progress. Children who attend L.B.J. & C. Head Start participates in a variety of educational activities, receive free medical and dental care, free healthy meals and snacks, and enjoy playing indoors and outdoors in a safe environment.

L.B.J. & C. Head Start staff members will offer your child love, acceptance, understanding, and the opportunity to learn and to experience success.
