The DAC presents "The Civil War in DeKalb County" by Thomas G. Webb, DeKalb County Historian on Saturday, September 26 at 7:00 p.m. at the DeKalb County Complex Auditorium. Adult admission is $10 per person and $3.00 for all students. Proceeds from the evening's entertainment will go to the DeKalb Animal Coalition, a tax deductible organization dedicated to building a new animal shelter for our community. The Civil War ended 150 years ago in April, 1865. So why do hard feelings related to that war still linger?. Why did so many DeKalb Countians join the Union Army? Why did DeKalb County civilians experience such intense and prolonged suffering? Why did some DeKalb Countians first join the Confederate Army and subsequently join the Union Army? The DCHS Tiger Football season opens Friday night, August 21 at Warren County
The Tigers open the season with three road trips: to Warren County on August 21, to Stone Memorial at Crossville on August 28, and at York Institute in Jamestown September 4.
DeKalb County will then host three straight home games starting with Cumberland County on September 11, Smith County on September 18, and Macon County on September 25.
A road trip will follow to Sequatchie County on October 2 and then back home for Grundy County on October 9.
The Tigers will have a bye week on October 16; play at Upperman on October 23, and then close out the season at home against Cannon County on October 30.

6:30 PM- Edgar Evins Wildlife: Come down to the Camp Store to learn about the wildlife on our beautiful State Park. There will be pelts, bones, and many other things you can feel and observe. You will also learn about some of our wildlife and be able to ask questions about random rumors you may have heard about some animals.
8:00 PM- Night Hike: Come meet the Seasonal Ranger at the Millennium Trail Head to walk down the trail on a fairly easy hike. Closed toed shoes are recommended but not a must. We will hopefully hear some owls and talk about what we see and or hear.
11:00 AM- Backyard Bass Fishin’: The fish in the yard have been biting good, so come to the Camp Store to work on your casting skills and catch a few. Prizes will be given so make sure you come have some fun!
2:00 PM- Rock Painting Art: Come to the Camp Store to use rocks to make paint. It’s a fascinating process that will allow you to paint on yourself or paper, whatever you prefer.
6:30 PM- Fire Starting: Meet at the Fire Circle to learn some quick and easy ways to start a fire. There are many things out there that you can always carry that will allow you to start a fire, rain or shine.
7:30 PM- Campfire: A fire with s'mores and riddles is what everyone needs on a good Friday night. So meet at the Fire Circle to eat and laugh a little. S'more supplies will be supplied by the park.
2:00 PM- Swimming 101: Meet at the Pool at the cabins to work on some swimming skills. Kids of any ages are invited with parental guidance. It will be fun, and hopefully we will get you loving the water.
6:00 PM- Snakes: Come down to the Fire Circle to learn about some snakes. There might even be some live creatures you can see and touch.

Tennessee’s fire season began October 15th and the Tennessee Division of Forestry wants to remind everyone that they must obtain a burning permit before doing any open burning. Only brush, leaves, grass, untreated or unpainted lumber or other natural plant residues can be legally burned. Burning permits can be obtained from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, Division of Forestry between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday by calling the DeKalb County office of the Division of Forestry at 597-4015. Burning permits can be obtained for small debris piles after hours and on the weekends by visiting www.burnsafetn.org. Think before you burn.
