A Warren County man, who allegedly burst into a residence on Patterson Road Sunday and kidnaped his girlfriend at gunpoint, has been arrested and charged in the case.
Sheriff Patrick Ray said 21 year old Donta Lamar Weir of Willow Way, McMinnville is charged with aggravated burglary, aggravated kidnaping, two counts of aggravated assault, and theft of property over $500. His bond totals $85,000 and he will be in court on July 14th.
According to Sheriff Ray, deputies received a call to go to Patterson Road Sunday where a man, Weir, came to the home, beat on the door, and then kicked in the door. As Weir was breaking in, the homeowner (victim) pulled a weapon and stood behind the door. But when Weir kicked in the door, the gun was knocked out of the homeowner's hand. Weir grabbed the gun and demanded to know where his girlfriend was. At that point, the homeowner ran out of the house and Weir, who found his girlfriend in the home, took her at gun point while she was nude, back to his vehicle and then left, returning to Warren County. Detectives were called in and conducted an investigation. Weir was later found in Warren County where he was arrested. The gun was also recovered.
The specific charges against Weir are as follows:
Aggravated burglary: On July 3rd, Weir tried to kick in the door to the home on Patterson Road. When the victim came to the door, Weir forced his way into the residence without the owners consent. Weir then committed a theft (gun) and an assault (of the homeowner) after entering the residence.
Aggravated Kidnaping: Meir did take by force his girlfriend while having a gun (taken from the home) in his possession. He forced her out, without allowing her to put on any clothes or get any belongings, and forcibly put her in his vehicle and would not let her out. While driving down the road, Weir fired the weapon out the window
Aggravated assault: Weir assaulted the victim of the home by entering without the owners consent. Weir struck and struggled with the owner until he took a 22 caliber handgun away from him (homeowner) The victim said Weir pointed the gun at him after he (Weir) took possession.
Aggravated assault: Weir assaulted his girlfriend by forcing her into his vehicle nude with a gun in his possession. He struck her several times, leaving her eye swollen and bruised. He fired the gun while driving down the road.
Theft of property over $500: Weir did take a 22 caliber handgun belonging to the victim (homeowner) without the victim's consent valued at over $500.
Meanwhile, in a separate case 30 year old Joseph Elwood Selby of Jim Garrett Road, Monterey is charged with sexual battery. His bond is $10,000 and he will be in court on July 14
Sheriff Ray said that on Saturday, July 2nd at Floating Mill Park on Center Hill Lake, Selby was swimming and touched a 12 year old female on the buttocks several times in a sexual manner making her feel uncomfortable and afraid.
39 year old Marty Dean Lamb of John Henry Demps Road, Sparta is charged with filing a false police report. His bond is $5,000 and he will be in court on July 14th.
Sheriff Ray reports that on Sunday, July 3rd at Sligo Marina, Lamb called 911 and reported that he had been robbed at gunpoint. After a further investigation, Lamb admitted to officers that he made up that story.
According to Sheriff Ray, the 911 center received a call from Lamb stating that he had picked up a female on Highway 70 and that he took her to Sligo Marina. While in the parking lot, Lamb said two men jumped him, robbed him, and stole his medication. Deputies responded and detectives were called to join them. While speaking to the detectives, Lamb further claimed that his Ipod was also stolen. But later during the questioning, Lamb admitted to detectives that he had been lying about the incident. Lamb said the reason he made the false report was because he had earlier pawned his daughter's Ipod and was ashamed and didn't want her to find out. Lamb added that he thought that he could simply file a report and that no further investigation would take place.
45 year old John Patrick Sanders of Brandywine Pointe, Old Hickory was issued a citation for leaving the scene of an accident. He will be in court on August 3rd.
Sheriff Ray reports that on Wednesday, June 29th Sanders was stopped on Highway 56 north near the overlook by a deputy who was responding to a possible motor vehicle accident where the driver had left the scene. The officer questioned Sanders, who initially lied about the accident but then admitted to running into a guardrail on Hurricane bridge where workers were present.
40 year old Johnny Darrell Murphy of Andrew Street, Smithville is charged with violation of the registration law, violation of financial responsibility, violation of the seatbelt law, and driving an unregistered vehicle. His court date is August 3rd.
Sheriff Ray reports that on Friday, July 1st Murphy was stopped by a deputy because he had expired tags on the vehicle. Murphy, who was not wearing a seatbelt, also could not provide proof of insurance or registration.
22 year old Omar Ernesto Rodriguez was issued a citation for driving without a license. He was further charged with leaving the scene of an accident. His bond is $2,500 and he will be in court on July 14. Sheriff Ray reports that Rodriguez was involved in an automobile accident on Banks Pisgah Road in which a fence was damaged. Rodriguez left the scene.
