Three Way Tie for First Place Among WJLE’s Fearless Forecasters (SHOW AIRS TODAY)

Three of WJLE’s Fearless Forecasters tied for having the best record picking winners during opening week of the college football season.
Ricky Atnip, Chad Kirby, and our special guest Larry Green each compiled a record of 11-4 last week. Scott Brown was next at 10-5. John Pryor and Dewain Hendrixson each went 9-6. Will Graham and Darrell Gill each were 8-7 and Grant James finished 7-8.
Two forecasters hit their underdog picks last week. John Pryor got 11.5 points with his upset pick of BYU over Arizona and Dewain Hendrixson got 1 point with Northwestern’s win over Purdue.
Today (Thursday) the Forecasters will be picking winners in the following games:
Arizona at Houston, Memphis at Navy, USC at Stanford, UCLA at Oklahoma, California at BYU, Colorado at Nebraska, Michigan State at Arizona State, Georgia Tech at South Florida, Iowa State at Iowa, Penn State at Pittsburgh, Mississippi State at Kansas State, Georgia at South Carolina, ETSU at Tennessee, Nevada at Vanderbilt, and in the NFL the Tennessee Titans at the Miami Dolphins.
Today’s special guest is Darvin Gill, Smithville native and Rhea County girls basketball coach.

Tubbs Charged with Assaulting His Wife

A man has been arrested for assaulting his wife.
54 year old Anthony Eugene Tubbs of Allen’s Chapel Road Smithville is charged with domestic assault. His bond is $3,500 and he will make a court appearance on September 20.
Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on Friday, August 31 a deputy responded to the residence on Allen’s Chapel Road in reference to a 911 hang up call. Upon arrival the officer spoke with Tubbs’ wife who reported that Tubbs grabbed her right hand by the fingers. Tubbs twisted the woman’s arm behind her back causing an injury. The deputy noticed that the woman had a large knot on top of her right hand.
34 year old Anthony Joe Hamilton of Luttrell Avenue, Smithville is charged with having contraband in a penal institution. Hamilton’s bond is $7,500 and his court date is September 20.
Sheriff Ray said that on Sunday, September 2 a correctional officer went to the sally port to meet an officer who had transported Hamilton from the emergency room to the jail for the Tennessee Highway Patrol. During a search, the officer found two syringe needles, a blue pill crusher, and a 22 caliber bullet in the right front pocket of Hamilton’s shorts.
61 year old Gary Lynn Cowan of Hillview Heights, Dowelltown is charged with filing a false report. His bond is $6,500 and he will make a court appearance September 20.
Sheriff Ray said that on Monday, September 3 a deputy went to a residence on Hillview Heights, Dowelltown to serve a state warrant and confronted the homeowner, Cowan. The officer asked Cowan if the man he was looking for was at the residence. Cowan responded “no”. The deputy then spotted the man by a wall inside the home. He made entry and found the man in the kitchen area. Cowan was charged with filing a false report for lying to the officer.
County Fire Department Saves Home from Blaze

Quick response by the DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department Sunday saved the home of Ashley Adcock on Belk Road.
No one was home at the time but a passerby spotted smoke coming from the eaves of the house and called 911.
County Fire Chief Donny Green said the fire started in a bedroom, apparently from an electrical problem, and spread up the wall into the attic. Firefighters extinguished the blaze before it could spread further.
The Belk, Keltonburg, Short Mountain Highway, Midway and Main Stations responded along with mutal aid backup support from the North Warren Fire Department in Warren County. DeKalb EMS and the Sheriff’s Department were also on the scene.
