DeKalb West Names Students of the Month

DeKalb West School announces its Students of the Month for February. Selected were Grady Thomason, Kindergarten, Javan Hefflin, 1st grade, Timothy Goss, 2nd grade, Izzy Prichard, 3rd grade, Ethan Hight, 4th grade, Grant Buterbaugh, 5th grade, Melanie Ortiz, 6th grade, Matt Nokes, 7th grade, and Cameron Kempton, 8th grade. Students are chosen for their academic skills, character, and other traits that make them one of the best at DeKalb West.

Six DCHS Basketball Players Earn All-District Honors

Six DCHS basketball players have received All-District honors.

The selections were announced Friday .

Tanner Poss of the Tiger basketball team was named to the 1st Team All-District. Marshal Evins was selected to the 3rd Team All-District. Trey Jones earned Honorable Mention.

Emme Colwell of the Lady Tigers made the 2nd Team All-District and was named the District’s Most Improved Player among girls. Mya Ruch earned a spot on the District’s Defensive Team. Both Ruch and Lydia Brown received All-District Honorable Mention.

Akira Levy of Upperman and Seth Carlisle of Macon County were named the District’s Most Valuable Players and Dana McWilliams and Bobby McWilliams of Upperman were chosen as the District Coaches of the Year.

The DCHS Basketball teams will make their debut in the District 8 AA Tournament next week at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville.

The Tigers, the 6th seed, will take on Watertown, the 7th seed, on Tuesday night, February 13 at 7:30 p.m. The winner will meet Macon County, the 3rd seed, on Thursday, February 15 at 7:30 p.m.

Meanwhile the Lady Tigers, the 5th seed, will face Watertown, the 8th seed, on Wednesday night, February 14 at 6:00 p.m. The winner will meet Cannon County, the 4th seed, on Friday, February 16 at 6:00 p.m.

Arkansas Man Charged with Being Fugitive from Justice

A man is facing extradition to Arkansas where he is wanted for being a fugitive from justice.

57 year old Timothy Allen Presley of Sherman Creek Road in Mulberry, Arkansas is under a $50,000 bond and his court date is February 15.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on Friday, February 9 before releasing Presley from custody in accordance with a court order, officers conducted a background check through NCIC and learned that he is wanted in Crawford County, Arkansas for failure to appear in court there on other charges. He is under a $15,000 bond there. Sheriff Ray said Arkansas authorities plan to extradite Presley.

18 year old Riley Cade Sexton of McMinnville Highway, Smithville is charged with domestic assault. His bond is $1,500 and his court date is March 1.

Sheriff Ray said that on Sunday, February 11 a deputy responded to a residence on McMinnville Highway for a physical domestic between a mother and son. Upon arrival the officer spoke to the mother, who said that her son, Sexton got into an argument with her and that he hit her with a microphone stand. Sexton admitted to having pushed his mother down. She had a red mark on her back where she was hit with the stand. Sexton was placed under arrest.
