Farris Hodges, Jr.

56 year old Farris Hodges, Jr. of Dowelltown died Sunday morning at his residence. He was in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in combat during the Vietnam War. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was also a lifetime member of the D.V.A. and P.V.A. Hodges was a prosthetic product line manager for the Department of Veterans Administration for 27 years. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Dry Creek Baptist Church where he was a member. Donald Owens will officiate and a private burial will follow. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Hodges of Dowelltown. Two sons, Farris Preston and his wife Melissa Hodges of Arlington, Tennessee and Christopher Ross Hodges of Germantown, Maryland. A daughter, Jayme Nicole and her husband Daniel Nevels of Memphis. Grandchildren, Mason Christian Hodges and Davis Bryant Nevels. Two brothers, Rodney Barry and his wife Isabel Huffman of Bartlett and David Allen Hodges of Millington. A sister, Debbie D. and her husband Ron Metcalf of Bartlett, Tennessee. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. The family requests that donations be made, in lieu of flowers, to Lazarus House Hospice in memory of Mr. Hodges.

Anita G. Petway

90 year old Anita G. Petway died Sunday night at NHC Health Care Center of Smithville. The body is at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be Wednesday but the time has not been announced. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery.

90 year old Anita Petway of Smithville died Sunday at NHC Health Care Center of Smithville. She was a homemaker and a member of the Smithville Church of Christ. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Dan Gulley and Tim Woodward will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burns Petway; parents, Nat and Alta Powell Groom; Five sisters, Mildred Groom, Hazel Sandlin, Avanell Fuson, Claudine Malone, and Edwina Saddler; and a brother, Truitt Groom. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Buins Baughman of Indiana. A sister and brother-in-law, Valeria and John Odum Evins of Liberty. A sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Groom of Liberty, and several nieces and nephews. The family has requested that donations be made to the Smithville Church of Christ and the Smithville Church of Christ Day School, in lieu of flowers. The family has also requested that no food be brought to the funeral home.

66 year old Joyce Elaine Kaczmarek, a retired factory worker of Smithville, died Monday at her residence. The body has been cremated and no public service will be held. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Onolee Hatch Skidmore; a daughter, Tammy Kaczmarek; and brothers, Jim and Steve Skidmore. Survivors include children, Mary and her husband Mike Streamer of Smithville; Rick and his wife Jenny Kaczmarek of McMinnville; Todd Kaczmarek of Bliss, New York; and Misti Kaczmarek and companion Lamar of Smithville. Grandchildren, Amber Johnson and companion Nathan, Karena Streamer, Shannan Schillaci and companion Jeff of Smithville, Jayson and his wife Amanda Schillaci of Silver Springs, New York; Kayla Spencer of New York and Javontae Martin of Smithville. Three great grandchildren. Two sisters, Annette Kaczmarek of Dale, New York and Anita Burns of Warsaw, New York. A brother, Ron Skidmore of Warsaw, New York. Special friends, Ron and Sandy Carney or Orangeville, New York. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

94 year old Thelma Owen of Auburntown died Monday at NHC Health Care Center of Smithville. She was a member of the Auburntown Baptist Church and a homemaker. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Jerry Osborne and Marvin Davenport will officiate and burial will be in the Prosperity Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from noon until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Ray Owen; her parents, Hatten and Sally Milligan Bryan; two sons, Wendall and Wade Owen; three brothers, Erskin Bryan, Neal Bryan, and Charlie Bryan; and a sister, Amy Hayes. Survivors include two grandchildren, Mike and his wife Louise Owen of Smithville and Donna and her husband Jim Sherrell of Auburntown. Four great grandchildren, Holly and Ashley Owen of Smithville and Michelle and Bryan James of Auburntown. A daughter-in-law, Robbie Owen of Auburntown. 88 year old Ms.Ollie L. Green of Smithville died Saturday of an extended illness at NHC Healthcare Center in Smithville. The funeral will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Bill Robertson will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. She was a Pentecostal, a retired factory worker, and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ike and Jessie Jones Pinegar; her husband, Logan Green; a daughter, Helen Wright; a grandson, Eddie Wright; and three sisters, Willie Odell Pinegar, Juanita Beshearse, and Leo Smith. Survivors include three daughters, Yvonne Green, Jo Ann and her husband Bill Sparkman, and Shirley and her husband Tavis Martin all of Smithville. Six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and ten great great grandchildren survive. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

69 year old Jimmy Chapman of Alexandria died Saturday at UMC Hospital in Lebanon. He was a DeKalb County native and a retired employee of TVA. The funeral will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Jack Patterson will officiate and burial will be in Brush Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. Chapman was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Grady and Lillie Cripps Chapman. Survivors include children, Jimmy Wayne Chapman of Smithville, Richard Chapman of Alexandria, and Lisa and her husband Kevin Cox of Liberty. The children's mother, Omega Sue Chapman Sanders of Smithville. Grandchildren, Timothy Chapman, Jerry Chapman, Johnny Chapman, Felicia Gibbs and Julie Chapman all of Smithville, Cory Chapman and Jamie Gibbs of Alexandria, and Takeshia Thomason of Liberty. Step grandchildren, Kevin Cox, Jr. of Liberty, Eric Cox of Murfreesboro, and Angie Cox of Watertown. Twelve great grandchildren also survive. 64 year old Anna Jo Foutch of Smithville died Sunday night at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She was also active with the March of Dimes and a longtime DeKalb Youth sponsor. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her father, John Thomas Taylor; her husband Jackie Foutch; and a sister, Betty Smith. Survivors include a son, Scott and his wife Kim Foutch; and two daughters, Sandy and her husband Jeff Fults and Terry and her husband Ricky Patterson all of Smithville. Her mother, Maudie Mae Hitchcock Taylor of Smithville. Eleven grandchildren and a brother, Johnny Taylor of McMinnville. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

92 year old Velma Louise Blankenship of Smithville died Monday at NHC of Smithville. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Union The Baptist Church for 70 years. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the New Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elzie Blankenship; her parents, Sam, Sr. and Etta Marsh Walker; a brother, Sam Walker, Jr.; and a sister, Vera Smith. Survivors include two children, Bettye and her husband Felix Webb of Smithville and Doris Judkins of Smithville. Two grandchildren, Kevin Webb and Glenisa and her husband Joe Willard all of McMinnville. Great grandchildren, Megan and Brandon Sparks, Matthew Willard, Heather Webb, Sarah Webb, Mari Katherine Webb, Bethany Webb, and Peyton Webb all of McMinnville. One sister, Estella Kinser of Chattanooga and several nieces and nephews. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
