Vera Bobbitt

Vera Irene Bobbitt, known to her family as “Mema” and Webb House Family as “Bob”, passed away at the age of 90 on August 3, 2014 in Smithville, Tennessee. Mrs. Bobbitt was born January 21, 1924 in Black Oak, Arkansas. She resided in Memphis for many years and while there was a Volunteer for the Red Cross. In later years she moved to Donelson, Tennessee where she and her husband, Larry Bobbitt, owned Bobbitt’s Hearing Aid. She was a member of the Lebanon Road Church of Christ and the Ladies Auxiliary Post 88. She was also a Hostess at the Grand Ole Opry for 20 years, a job that she truly loved. Vera was known and beloved for her flamboyant hats and her snazzy style. She was a friend and a confidante to all with a wonderful sense of humor. She was the first resident of the new Webb House for the past seven years. She was preceded in death by her parents J.C. Mooneyham and Maureen Clyde Henry Mooneyham and her husband Major Lawrence A. Bobbitt. She is survived by her devoted daughter Pat Tatum, husband Larry Tatum, grandsons Mike Tatum, wife Stephanie, and Mitch Tatum, wife Gina, and 5 great grand children, Mackenzie, Will, Zach, Kindal, and Drew, as well as many friends and her Webb House Family. A memorial service will be held at the Chapel of the Webb House on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at a later date at the National Cemetery on Gallatin Road in Nashville. In lieu of the flowers, the family asks that all memorial donations be sent to the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief which can be found at diasterrelieffort.org or the Ladies Auxiliary Post 88 in Donelson, Tennessee
