76 year old William "Bill" Phillips of Smithville died Friday at his residence. He was a U.S. Military veteran having served in the Marines. He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church and he was a retired lab and x-ray technician. The funeral will be Sunday at 1:30 pm. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Joshua Phillips and Vincent Baker will officiate and burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Saturday from 2:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:30 p.m. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Edna Cook Phillips; his first wife, Nina Reeder Phillips, and a brother, C.T. Phillips, Jr. Survivors include his wife, Freeda Robinson Phillips of Smithville. Two sons, Randall and wife Amelia Phillips of Smithville and Marty and wife Teresa Phillips of Cookeville. Two grandchildren, Joshua Phillips of Nashville and William Heath Phillips in the U.S. Navy. Three step-children, Brenda Dilldine of Sparta, and Cheryl Perkins, and David Pedigo both of Smithville. Three step-grandchildren, Dustin Pedigo and Charica Perkins both of Smithville and Aareyann and Daylon Luna of Sparta. Four sisters, Norma Gunter, Mary and husband Cordell Lawson, and Jane Eller all of Smithville, and Faye and husband Don Campbell of McMinnville. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In addition to flowers, donations may be made to the Gideon's International, to the Bethel Methodist Church, or to the cemetery fund.
