The DCHS basketball teams won the battle of the felines Thursday night winning at Gordonsville in both games. The Lady Tigers opened with a 46 to 38 win while the Tigers completed the sweep of the night with a 63 to 35 victory.
In the girls game, DC led 13 to 8 after the first period and 26 to 17 by halftime, outscoring Gordonsville 13 to 9 in the second quarter. The Lady Tigers maintained their lead in a low scoring third period, edging Gordonsville 5 to 3 to extend their advantage to 31 to 20 by the close of the quarter. Gordonsville outscored DC in the fourth quarter 18 to 15 but the Lady Tigers still won comfortably 46 to 38.
Loren Cripps led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 16 points. Chelsea Lewis had 11. Abbey Caldwell 6. Alex Meadows 5. Danielle Tyson 4. Ashley Barnes 3 and Lydia Foutch added 1.
The Tigers opened up a ten point lead over Gordonsville by the end of the first period, leading 14 to 4. Gordonsville closed the gap in the second quarter, outscoring the Tigers 15 to 10 but still trailed DC 24 to 19 by halftime. The black and gold Tigers had a strong third quarter, outgunning Gordonsville 27 to 7 expanding their lead to 51 to 26 heading into the fourth quarter. DC went on to seal the deal in the final stanza 63 to 35, outscoring Gordonsville 12 to 9
Sonni Young led the way for the Tigers with 18 points. Stephen Howell had 11. Will Molander 9. Andrew Atnip 7. Ethan Roller and Lucas Phillips each with 6 and Eli Lomas and Zach Bandy each scored 2.
