DCHS Tiger tennis senior, Ryan Young, lost to Cannon County's Aaron Hollis, 6-3, 6-0, in the finals of the individual District Tennis Tournament at Tennessee Tech on Tuesday, but Young earned a berth into the individuals' Region Tournament, as did the Lady Tiger doubles team of Katie Herman and Jessica Harney, who won the District doubles title with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 win over Cannon County's Rachael Young and Cheri Fann.
The Regionals for individuals and doubles teams are scheduled for Monday, May 12th, at Hadley Park.
In the first round of the individuals' District Tournament at Tech on Monday, Candace Couch of Cannon County eliminated DeKalb County's Megan Merriman, 6-2, 6-4. Laken Ward of Clay County topped DeKalb's Megan Osborne, 6-3, 6-4. The doubles team of Jessica Walden and Whitney Gann from DCHS beat the team of Ciphers/Goad, 6-3, 6-1. Jessica Harney and Katie Herman of DeKalb beat the team of Poindexter/Hester from Clay County, 6-0, 6-2.
In boys' action, Patrick Davenport of Cannon County beat DeKalb County's Jordan Howe, 6-3, 6-4. Caleb Gash of DeKalb beat Livingston's Holton Hummel, 6-3, 6-4. The doubles team of Reeves Beller and Jordan Adams beat Clay County's King/Maynard, 6-0, 6-0. DeKalb County's Ryan Young received a first round bye.
In the second round on Tuesday, Cannon County's team of Mullin/Pippin eliminated DeKalb County's Walden and Gann, 6-4, 6-1. Harney and Herman advanced with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Cannon County's Woodin/Campbell. Beller and Adams in boys' doubles lost to Bailey/Womack of Cannon County, 6-3, 6-2. Caleb Gash bowed out to Cannon's Aaron Hollis, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4). DeKalb County's Ryan Young advanced, meanwhile, with a 6-2, 6-4 straight sets victory over Livingston's Lucas Moore.
Young moved on and fell to Hollis in the final, although he clinched a berth in the Region Tournament, while Herman and Harney took down Cannon's Young and Fann for the District Championship.
The Tigers, as a team, also won the team District Tournament, and was scheduled to play in the team Region Tournament on Friday at Cumberland University in Lebanon.
