The DeKalb County Tigers and Lady Tigers went out winners Saturday night closing the book on the home schedule of the regular season with wins over the visiting Gordonsville Tigers and Tigerettes on senior night in Smithville.
The Lady Tigers won 54 to 42 while the Tigers prevailed 59 to 49.
In the girls game, DC trailed 8 to 7 after the first period but grabbed a 23 to 15 lead by halftime, outscoring Gordonsville 16 to 7 in the second period. The Lady Tigers held a ten point lead, 36 to 26 after the third period, outscoring the visitors 13 to 11. DC went on to win 54 to 42, outscoring Gordonsville 18 to 16 in the fourth period.
Loren Cripps scored 22 points against Gordonsville. Alex Meadows had 9. Lydia Foutch 8. Chelsea Lewis 6. Abbey Caldwell 5 and Ashley Barnes 4.
In the boys game, DC led 15 to 7 after the first period and 29 to 19 at halftime, outscoring Gordonsville 14 to 12. Gordonsville outscored the Tigers 15 to 14 in the third period, still DC led 43 to 34 after three. DC won the fourth quarter 16 to 15 and won the game 59 to 49.
Stephen Howell scored 17 for DC. Sonni Young had 10. Braxton Howell 9. Ethan Roller and Will Molander each with 7. Lucas Phillips 4. Braxton Atnip 4 and Zach Vincent with 2.
DeKalb County will now compete in the district tournament which starts this week in Sparta at White County High School.
The Tigers will face Central Magnet Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. and the Lady Tigers will take on Cannon County Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. WJLE will have LIVE coverage.
