The DeKalb County 11 & 12 year old Little League All-Stars are preparing for their trip to the State Tournament in Pulaski, this weekend. The local Little Leaguers are making their first trip to State since 2002, when the team traveled to Morristown and finished third.
DeKalb County will be facing Morristown in the opening round of the tournament, this Saturday, at approximately 12 noon. WJLE plans to call in live updates from Pulaski. Win or lose on Saturday, DeKalb County will play again on Sunday. Should the local team win Saturday, they would take on Maryville, Sunday, at 3:00 p.m. A loss would put DeKalb in an elimination game with either Donelson or Johnson City, Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
The Little League State Tournament will continue through Saturday, July 26th, in Pulaski.
Meanwhile, the DeKalb County 13 & 14 year old Junior League All-Stars are in the State Tournament for the fourth year in a row, and will travel to South Holeston, TN, near Bristol in the upper eastern part of the state. DeKalb will play the District 9 champion, this Saturday, at 11:30 a.m. central time. Should the local team win, they would play again on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. central time against the District 5 champion. A loss would send DeKalb County to a must-win game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
The Junior League State Tournament runs through Tuesday, July 22nd. DeKalb County finished second in the State Tournament last year in Newport, and won the tournament in 2005 in Smithville.
