The Macon County Tigerettes ended the DeKalb County Lady Tigers' basketball season, Thursday night in Lafayette, with a 54-32 defeat of the local girls team in the play-in game of the District 7-AA Tournament.
Macon County scored the game's first five points, as the Lady Tigers never led in the game. By the end of the first period, the Tigerettes held a 10-2 advantage. The Macon lead grew to 23-11 at the half, and to 38-24 by the end of the third period. The Macon County victory sent the Tigerettes on to Tennessee Tech to play third-seeded, Livingston Academy, Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
Cyntha Woodward scored 13 points to lead the Lady Tigers, followed by Katie Herman with eight. Kristina Stephens tallied five points, while Victoria Bennett, Morgan Page and Lauren Hansard each scored two points. Seniors, Herman and Hansard, played in their final games as Lady Tiger basketball players.
The Lady Tigers end the season with a final record of 5-21.
The DeKalb County Tigers, meanwhile, will open tournament play Friday night at 8:30 p.m. against the York Institute Dragons. The Tigers are the fourth seed in the boys' tournament, while the Dragons are the number five seed. WJLE will have live coverage from Tennessee Tech's Hooper-Eblen Center.
