The DeKalb Middle School Saints put up 318 yards of total offense, and blew out the Cannon County Lions, 42-6, Thursday night, during Homecoming festivities. The win improves the Saints' record to 2-1 on the young season.
Zaxtin Fayete rushed for 48 yards and two touchdowns, while Casey France tallied 107 ground yards and another score, as DMS opened up a 22-0 lead and never looked back. Fayette posted the first Saints' touchdown on a four-yard run, then came back with the second score on a 27-yard run. France broke free on a 10-yard run to the end zone for the third DMS touchdown.
Cannon County's only score came on a 55-yard run from scrimmage by Jarrett Melton, which cut the score to 22-6, but the Saints tacked on another touchdown on a 45-yard pass from Ethan Roller to Jason Judkins, with 1:54 left until halftime.
Roller hooked up with Chris Chapman on an 18-yard scoring strike for the Saints' first score of the second half. The final touchdown came on a 42-yard run by Lucas Phillips, with 5:02 left in the fourth quarter.
Roller hit on 2-of-5 passes for 63 yards and two touchdowns. Phillips added 42 yards to the Saints' 255 ground yards on the night. The DMS defense held the Lions to 92 yards of total offense.
The Saints will wrap up the home portion of their schedule next Tuesday night, as Smith County comes to town for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff. Eighth Grade Night festivities will get underway at 6:00 p.m.
