DCHS's Mallory Sullivan and Ethan Roller medaled in the Keith Maxwell Invitational on Tuesday at the McMinnville Country Club. Sullivan finished second and Roller came in fifth in the tournament.
Sullivan carded a 76 to finish behind Warren County’s Hannah Powell at 75. "Mallory came in second. She had a one shot lead going into the last hole but kind of caught a bad break. She ended up getting a silver medalist " said DCHS Coach Joe Pat Cope. " Mallory played in the big Early Bird tournament in Cookeville earlier in the year and won it. She has done really well this year going into the district and region. She is definitely one of the top five girls in the state," said Coach Cope.
Warren County (152) claimed the girls team title at their home course. Coffee County (157) finished second in the team standings, followed by Blackman (167), Cookeville (171) and Maryville (179) to round out the top five.
The rest of the team field included Siegel (183), DeKalb County (190), White County (192), Rhea County (214) and Tullahoma (217).
Blackman’s Tanner Owens won the individual boy's title with a 2-under 70. The other medalists included Maryville’s Steven Bagwell (73), Coffee County’s Matt Johnson (74), Warren County’s Bracton Womack (74) and DeKalb County’s Ethan Roller (75).
"Ethan Roller ended up medaling at Warren County. His last four rounds, he was 12 under par," said Coach Cope. "We played Cannon County last week and defeated them and Ethan shot a 31 in that at Willowbrook and that's where the state is," he said.
Coffee County (305) was the boys team winner followed by Warren County (312), Maryville (314), and Cookeville (316).
The Cavaliers were followed in the team standings by Siegel (318), Blackman (322), Cumberland County (331), Marshall County (338), Tullahoma (339), White County (340), DeKalb County (346), Stone Memorial (361) and Rhea County (364).
"Team wise, the DCHS boys are 11-1 in the district," said Coach Cope. " Our only loss is to Jackson County. They beat us by two stokes at Jackson County. We avenged that loss at our place," he said.
The district tournament for both boys and girls begins later this month. "Friday, September 13 the boys at White Plains. The following Tuesday, September 17 the girls will be at Ironwood Golf Course in Cookeville. The region is September 23. The state is the following Tuesday and Wednesday," said Coach Cope.
