Junior, Shay Sullivan, and sophomore, Payne Denman, earned the 2007 DCHS Golf Most Valuable Player awards at Thursday night's golf banquet, held at the Smithville Church of Christ Annex.
Sullivan posted an individual match record of 21-3-3, this season, won the District Tournament, as an individual, for the second season in a row, and won the Region Tournament. She earned a berth to the TSSAA State Golf Tournament for the second straight year, where she tied for 23rd place . Sullivan helped lead the Lady Tiger golf team to a 22-17-1 overall recoed, and to their fourth straight District Tournament title. The Lady Tigers finished third in the Region Tournament.
Denman, meanwhile, had a 25-1 individual match record, this season. He won the Palmetto State High School Golf Classic at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, as an individual, won the District Tournament for the season year in a row, won the Region Tournament, and finished tied for fourth place at the TSSAA State Tournament. Denman and the Tiger golf team won both the District and Region Tournaments, and finished third out of eight teams in the Class A-AA State Golf Tournament, finishing with the best score among public schools at the event. The Tigers finished with a program-record 49 match wins, this season, and an overall record of 49-24.
Meanwhile, Grant Goodwin and Victoria Bennett received Player's Choice Awards, which are voted on by the players. The Player's Choice award represents a golfer that represents the program in a dignified manner, and is a player that his or her fellow golfers enjoys playing golf with the most. Goodwin, a senior, is a four-year member of the DCHS golf team, while Bennett, a junior, just completed her second year with the program.
Goodwin and Tyler Robinson were also recognized as the progrm's two outgoing seniors. Goodwin was 83-40-7 in individual matches throughout the course of his four-year career, and owns ten individual or team records during Coach Chris Vance's era with the team. Goodwin posted a third place finish among individual medalists at the District Tournament, and a second place finish in the Region Tournament. Robinson, meanwhile, posted a 77-19-7 individual record, with seven individual or team records.
The DCHS golf teams set eight team and 15 individual records in the Vance era, this season, and was represented at the State Tournament for the fifth year in a row.
