The DeKalb County High School Tiger golf team was tied for the lead after the first day of the TSSAA Class A-AA State Tournament in Murfreesboro. The Tigers shot a combined team score of 303, which tied the DC boys with CPA for first place after the first 18 holes.
Meanwhile, DCHS junior, Payne Denman, shot a 67 on Tuesday with put him atop the individual leaderboard by four strokes over Greg Kitts of Anderson County, who shot a 71. Austin Garrett of DeKalb County was tied for third place with Stewart Oldham of Station Camp, each with a 72. Grant James also shot a 79 for the Tigers, while Keith Ferrell rounded out the team score with a an 85. Logan Clark also shot a 92, but his score did not count among the top four on the Tiger score sheet.
On the ladies side, DCHS senior, Shay Sullivan, was squarely in the top ten after day one. Sullivan shot a 79 through the first 18 holes, which placed her eighth among individual medalists. Sullivan trailed overall leader, Shelby Gilbert of Notre Dame, by eight strokes.
The second and final day of the State Tournament will be played on Wednesday, beginning at 8:00 a.m. at the Old Fort Golf Course in Murfreesboro.
