The DeKalb County Tigerettes defeated Smyrna 3 to 0 and then lost to Unicoi County 8 to 0 Friday night on the first day of the Commando Classic in Hendersonville. The scheduled games for Saturday have been cancelled due to the weather.
In the game with Smyrna, DeKalb County scored 3 runs on 3 hits and made no errors. Victoria Bennett, Kristina Stephens, and Cynthia Woodward each had a single and an RBI.
Smyrna was held scoreless on one hit and made one error.
Morgan Page, the winning pitcher, went 3 innings and gave up one hit. She struck out three and walked two in the game.
Coach Danny Bond says the game was scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. but was delayed by rain until 9:00 p.m. There was also a one hour time limit on the game.
Meanwhile, in the game with Unicoi County, which started around 11:00 p.m., DeKalb County lost 8 to 0. The Tigerettes had only one hit, by Victoria Bennett, and made no errors.
Unicoi County scored 8 runs on 8 hits and made one error.
Shay Sullivan, the losing pitcher, went 3 innings and gave up six hits, struck out one and walked four. Josie Culwell, the relief pitcher, gave up two hits and walked one in one inning of work.
DeKalb County's record is now 3-1 and the Tigerettes will open the District season at York Institute in Jamestown Monday at 4:30 p.m.
