The DeKalb County High School Tigerette fast-pitch softball team swept a district doubleheader at York Institute on Monday. The Tigerettes shut out the Lady Dragons, 11-0, in the first game, then came back for a 9-4 victory in the nightcap.
Shay Sullivan pitched three innings of no hit ball in the first game and struck out six of the ten batters she faced. The game lasted only three innings due to the ten-run rule.
DeKalb County scored four runs in the first inning, five more in the second and put the game away with two runs in the top of the third inning. The Tigerettes pounded out 12 hits, led by Morgan Page, who had an inside-the-park home run, a single and two RBI; Victoria Bennett had a single, a triple and two RBI; Jaylen Garrett had a single, a double and an RBI; Cynthia Woodward ripped two singles; Sarah West had a triple and an RBI; Kristina Stephens had a single and an RBI, while Sullivan and Kara Young each had one single.
In the second game, Morgan Page earned the win in the pitcher's circle as she worked the first four innings, allowed four runs on four hits, struck out seven and walked four. Josie Culwell pitched the final inning, allowed one hit and struck out one.
The Tigerettes put up three runs in the bottom of the first inning, four more runs in the second, and two runs in the third. York Institute scored all four of their runs in the second inning. DC committed three errors in the contest.
DeKalb County had 11 hits in the nightcap, led by Jaylen Garrett with two singles, a double, and three RBI; Sarah West had a triple, a single and two RBI; Kristina Stephens had a single, a double and an RBI; Britney Armour had a triple and an RBI; Victoria Bennett had a double and an RBI; Morgan Page added a triple, Kayla Fish had one single, while Cynthia Woodward tallied one RBI.
The Tigerettes improve to 5-1 overall, and open district play 2-0. DeKalb County will host district foe, Livingston Academy, Thursday evening at 5:00 p.m. WJLE plans live coverage of the game.
