Tigers Advance in Region Tournament with 62 to 57 Win at Whitehouse

The DeKalb County Tigers knocked off the Whitehouse Blue Devils 62 to 57 Saturday night in the first round of the Region 4AA Basketball Tournament at Whitehouse.

DeKalb County led 13 to 12 at the end of the first period and outscored the Blue Devils 17 to 13 in the second quarter to lead 30 to 25 at halftime. The Tigers edged Whitehouse 14 to 11 in the third period to take a 44 to 36 lead into the fourth period. The Blue Devils outscored the Tigers 21 to 18 in the fourth period but it was the Tigers who got the win 62 to 57.

Payne Denman led the Tigers in scoring with 19 points. Abram Edwards had 12 points, Hunter Poteete 9 points, Seth Willoughby 7, Jeff Miller 6, J.J. Herriott with 5, and Hunter Stewart scored 4 points.

DeKalb County will meet either Livingston Academy or Donelson Christian Academy on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. in the semi-finals of the region tournament at Upperman High School in Baxter. WJLE plans LIVE coverage.
