The DeKalb County Tigers will compete for the championship of the Region 4AA high school basketball tournament Thursday night after defeating Bledsoe County 62 to 51 Tuesday night in the semi-finals at Dunlap.
The Tigers will meet the team that denied them the district tournament championship, Livingston Academy in the region tourney title game Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. at Sequatchie County High School in Dunlap. WJLE will have LIVE coverage. Livingston Academy made it to the championship game by beating Upperman 67 to 51 in the semi-finals Tuesday night.
In the semi-finals Tuesday night, DeKalb County led Bledsoe County 25 to 20 after the first period, 34 to 31 at halftime, and 38 to 35 after the third period before going on to win 62 to 51.
Sonni Fulliove led the Tigers in scoring with 18 points. Braxton Atnip had 17. Ethan Roller and Lucas Phillips each with 12 and Aaron Patterson with 3 points.
The Tigers are now 30-5 on the season. They finished the regular season as district champs with a record of 11 and 1. Their only district loss was to Upperman. Against Livingston Academy, DeKalb County won 56 to 55 on December 4 at Livingston and 78 to 71 at home on January 22. The Tigers lost to the Wildcats in the District Tournament Championship game 57 to 41 last Tuesday, February 19 at Cookeville. Livingston Academy is 26-8. The Wildcats finished the district race at 10-2.
Meanwhile, Cannon County will face Livingston Academy in the girls region tournament championship game tonight (Wednesday) at 7:00 p.m. at Cookeville High School. Cannon County advanced to the tournament title game by defeating Upperman 51 to 39 in the semi-finals while Livingston Academy punched their ticket with a 54 to 48 win over York Institute.
