The DeKalb County Tigers are just one win away from a perfect 10-0 regular season. For the first time since 1979, the DCHS football program has compiled a 9-0 record for the season. The latest victory, 47-7 came Friday night against the Upperman Bees at Baxter.
The Bees, now 3-6 on the season, scored their one and only touchdown of the game early in the first period as Freshman quarterback Todd Stanton found Jared Case on a pass play that covered 58 yards for the score. The extra point was good and Upperman led 7-0 with 11:04 left in the first period. It was all Tigers after that.
With 7:46 left in the first period, the Tigers tied the game on a 17 yard quarterback keeper by Lucas Phillips. The extra point by Ben Driver was good and the score was 7-7.
DC took the lead with six seconds left in the first period on an eight yard touchdown pass play from quarterback Lucas Phillips to Chris Chapman. The extra point try was blocked but the Tigers led 13-7
DeKalb County extended its lead with 3:04 left in the second period on a four yard touchdown run by Chris Chapman. The P.A.T. try by Ben Driver was good and the Tigers led 20-7.
Dustin Warner caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Lucas Phillips covering 51 yards for the score. The extra point by Ben Driver was good and DC owned a 27-7 lead with 8:08 left in the third period.
The Tigers struck again with 7:05 left in the third period on an 11 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Lucas Phillips to Sonni Fullilove. The extra point try was no good but DC led 33-7
Dustin Warner caught another touchdown pass from quarterback Lucas Phillips with 4:15 left in the third period, this time covering 54 yards for the score. The P.A.T. by Ben Driver was good and DC led 40-7.
The final score came on an 11 yard touchdown run by quarterback Joey Moon with 2:19 left in the fourth period. The extra point by Ben Driver was good and DeKalb County won 47-7.
The Tigers will be off next Friday night with a bye week but will conclude the regular season on Friday, October 26 at Livingston Academy. Kick-off is at 7:00 p.m. WJLE will have LIVE coverage.
