The DeKalb County Tigers won the Region Tournament Championship Wednesday night in Smithville, beating the Livingston Academy Wildcats 4 to 3 in nine innings.
It was the Tigers fifth victory over Livingston Academy this season. With the win, the Tigers will host East Hamilton in the Sub-State in Smithville on Friday at 4:00 p.m. WJLE plans LIVE coverage.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Tigers broke through with two runs. The Wildcats took the lead in the top of the fifth inning with three runs. DeKalb County scored the tying run in the bottom of the fifth. The game stayed all knotted up at 3 to 3 until the bottom of the ninth inning when Shane Salley got an RBI single to drive in the winning run.
The Tigers scored four runs on eleven hits and made one error. Livingston Academy scored three runs on six hits and made no errors.
Destry Wiggins, the starting pitcher, went seven innings on the mound for the Tigers. He faced thirty two batters, gave up three earned runs on five hits, struck out seven, walked six, and hit a batter. Shane Salley, the game winner, went two innings and faced eight batters. He gave up no runs and only one hit. He struck out two and hit a batter. Salley is 9-0 on the mound for the Tigers this season.
