The DeKalb County Tiger baseball team hit four home runs in two games, and swept a district doubleheader over the York Institute Dragons in Jamestown, Wednesday evening.
Bray Page and Coey Atnip each connected for round-trippers in the Tigers' 13-5 win in the first game. Atnip smacked a second blast in game two, and Colt Stewart added his second homer of the season, as the Tigers claimed game two, 13-0.
Trey Finley started amd pitched 6 2/3 innings in the first game, allowing five runs - three earned - on three hits. Finley struck out 11 batters, walked none and hit six batters before leaving the mound due to an injury in the seventh inning. Garrett Hoke came in and closed out the game with a strikeout.
DeKalb County put up six runs in the top of the first inning, tacked on one more in the second, and two runs in each the fourth, sixth and seventh innings. York tallied a run in the bottom of the first, three more in the third, and another run in the sixth. The Tigers had 12 total hits and two errors, while the Dragons had four hits and four errors in the first game.
At the plate for DC, Page added two singles to his second HR of the season and had a total of three RBI; Atnip also had three RBI, as his homerun was a first inning, three-run shot. Destry Wiggins had two singles and a double, Cody Atnip had a double and an RBI, Trey Finley had a single and an RBI, Colt Stewart belted a triple, Joseph Bowen and John Malone each had a single, while Zack Rowland tallied an RBI.
In the second game, Bray Page pitched five innings of one-hit ball and struck out eight batters, in a game shortened due to the ten-run rule.
DeKalb County posted five runs in the third inning and tallied eight more in the bottom of the fourth. The Tigers totaled nine hits and committed no errors, while York had just one hit and committed three errors.
At the plate for the Tigers, Corey Atnip tallied an RBI to go with his second homer of the day. Stewart had three RBI to go with his second homerun of the season. Bowen had a single, a triple and two RBI; Rowland and Malone each tallied a single and an RBI; Cody Atnip ripped a double, while Page and Wiggins each had a single.
The DeKalb County Tigers improve to 8-2 overall and to 4-2 in district play. York Institute is 2-4 in the district race.
