The DeKalb County Tigers finished in fifth place in the Watertown Christmas Tournament Thursday with a 61 to 33 win over the Davidson Academy Bears. The Lady Tigers meanwhile ended up in fourth place after losing to the Cascade Lady Champions 45 to 38.
The Tigers led 11 to 9 after the first period in the boys game and outscored the Bears 19 to 2 in the second period to build a 30 to 11 advantage by halftime. Davidson Academy edged the Tigers 16 to 15 in the third period but DC still led comfortably 45 to 27 going into the fourth quarter. From there, the Tigers outscored the Bears 16 to 6 and coasted to a 61 to 33 win.
Sonni Young led the Tigers in scoring with 19 points. Stephen Howell and Zach Vincent each scored 11. Braxton Atnip 8, Eli Lomas 5, Lucas Phillips, Ethan Roller, and Austin Frazier each scored 2 and Will Molander added one point.
The Lady Tigers led 13 to 5 after the first period in their game with Cascade but the Lady Champions outscored DC 10 to 6 in the second quarter to cut the DC lead to four points by halftime 19 to 15. Cascade outpaced the Lady Tigers 15 to 11 in the third period for a 30 to 30 tie. The Lady Champions forged ahead in the fourth period, outscoring the Lady Tigers 15 to 8 and won 45 to 38.
Alex Meadows had 12 points for the Lady Tigers. Danielle Tyson 10. Chelsea Lewis 6, Loren Cripps and Lydia Foutch each had 4 points and Abbey Caldwell with 2.
DeKalb County will visit Upperman Friday, January 6.
