Sonni Young's buzzer beating three pointer gave the Tigers a 61 to 58 overtime win over the Monterey Wildcats Wednesday afternoon in the Watertown Christmas Tournament. The Tigers, who lost Tuesday to Cheatham County in the tournament, will face Davidson Academy in the consolation bracket Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
The Tigers led the Wildcats 14 to 4 after the first period and outscored them 19 to 12 in the second period for a 33 to 16 halftime advantage. But Monterey came storming back in the second half, outscoring DC 16 to 8 in the third period to cut the Tiger lead to 41 to 32 going into the fourth quarter. Monterey outscored the Tigers 17 to 8 in the fourth period, sending the game into overtime tied at 49. DC outscored the Wildcats 12 to 9 in the extra session and with Sonni Young's last second three pointer, the Tigers won 61 to 58.
Young finished the game with 21 points followed by Stephen Howell with 14, Braxton Atnip 8, Braxton Howell 7, Zach Vincent 5, and Will Molander, Ethan Roller, and Lucas Phillips each had 1 point.
