Tigers Lose 24-0 In Stormy Season Opener

August 25, 2007

Despite two delays due to heavy rains and lightning, the DeKalb County
Tigers and Warren County Pioneers finished up their high school season
opener, Friday night, with the game wrapping up just a few minutes before
midnight. When all was said and done, the Pioneers dealt the Tigers their
third straight season-opening loss, with a 24-0 decision at Nunley Stadium

drive stalled out at the Tiger 48-yard line. DeKalb County ran one

locker rooms. An hour and a half later, after heavy rains soaked the
stadium and drove several fans away, the game resumed. When it did, Tiger

Saints upended in season opener

August 20, 2007

The DeKalb Saints put forth a solid defensive effort, but the offense was unable to put up enough points to pull out a victory in the team's season opener, last Thursday night in Baxer. Cornerstone Middle School scored on their first and last full drives of the game, and knocked off the local junior high squad, 14-0.

Sam Cass scored on a one-yard touchdown run to cap off an 11-play, 62 yard drive, which opened the game for Cornerstone. Tyler Winfree ran in the two-point conversion to give the Yellow Jackets an 8-0 lead.

The Saints' offense struggled to move the ball, as the team was able to pick up only one first down in the first half against the stingy Cornerstone defense.
