Tigers Lose 35-9 at Station Camp

September 22, 2007

The DeKalb County High School Tiger football team lost for the fourth time
in as many tries this season, as the local team dropped a 35-9 decision at
Station Camp, Friday night. The loss also dropped the Tigers to 0-2 in

Neither team scored on their opening drives, as the Tigers stopped the
Bison at the DC three-yard line on the opening drive of the game, but a
Hunter Poteete fumble three plays into the ensuing Tiger drive gave
Station Camp the ball back at the Tiger three. The Bison needed three
plays, after a false start penalty, before tailback, Richard Bailey plowed
in from five yards out. Matt Hinricher added the extra point to give
Station Camp a 7-0 lead, with 5:32 left in the opening quarter.

DeKalb County answered with a field goal on their next drive, as Juan Ruiz
capped off a 12-play, 68-yard drive with a 23-yard field goal, which
trimmed the Bison lead to 7-3, as the second quarter was getting underway.

Bobcats out-run Tigers in Region opener

September 8, 2007

The Greenbrier Bobcats raced out to a 14-0 first quarter lead, and used that early advantage to hold off the feisty DeKalb County Tigers, 36-22, Friday night in Greenbrier.

The Bobcats won the game, despite the Tigers holding a 294-280 edge in total offensive yards.

After DeKalb County went three-and-out on their first possession, Greenbrier scored on their second play from scrimmage. Quarterback Justin Grogan found Ryan Dickerson on a screen pass, and Dickerson scampered 18 yards for the score. Blake Tucker added the extra point, and the Bobcats jumped on top, 7-0, with 9:50 left in the opening quarter.

The Tigers drove into Bobcat territory on their nexrt possession, but a Matthew Lawrence fumble gave Greenbrier the ball at their own 20 yard line. Nine plays later, Zack Ziegler took off on a 42-yard touchdown run, which made it a 14-0 game after Tucker's PAT.

Turnovers, big plays doom Saints in Carthage

September 5, 2007

The DeKalb County Saints committed five turnovers, and Smith County running back, Charles Cortez, ran for 163 yards and three touchdowns, as the Owls rolled to a 36-0 win, Tuesday night in Carthage.

Cortez reeled off a 32-yard scoring run, with 4:59 left in the first quarter, to put Smith County on the board. The Owl defense intercepted a Dylan Freeney pass on the second play of the ensuing Saints' drive, and returned it 33 yards to make it a 14-0 game, with 4:48 still to play in the quarter.

Cortez scored on the next two Smith County possessions, and the Owls tacked on another score just before intermission, to make it a 36-0 game by halftime.

Neither team scored in the second half, but the Saints had an apparent touchdown called back on a penalty, late in the game. Freeney took off from the Saints' seven-yard line and raced 93 yards to the end zone, but the ball was brought back to mid-field after an illegal block penalty.
