Helen Rose Maxwell, 84, of Welaka, Florida went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 17, 2018 unexpectedly at her residence. Helen was born in Smithville, Tennessee and had been a resident of Welaka for the past 46 years, coming from Marion, Alabama. She was an active and faithful member of Welaka United Methodist Church where she had served in many capacities. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking, baking, feeding others, gardening and watching the manatees from her dock. Her passion was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a hardworking homemaker. Preceding her in death was the love of her life, her husband of 67 years, James I. Maxwell; and three sisters, Jodie, Shirley and Ruby. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Rosalou Maxwell of Spanish Fort, AL, and Dennis and Lynne Maxwell of Pomona Park; a sister, Wilma Staley of Smithville, TN; five grandchildren and spouses, Monica Maxwell, Michael and Laura Maxwell, James and AlvaGayle Maxwell, Jessica Maxwell, and Rebecca and Johnny Phosavath; eleven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A service celebrating Helen’s life and honoring her Lord will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 20th with Pastor Erle Prevatt and Pastor William Sparks officiating. The family will begin receiving friends at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka, Florida. Graveside services and interment will be Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Whorton Springs Cemetery with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. Visitation with the family will be Thursday 2 P.M. until 2:45 P.M. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel at which time the family will leave to go to the cemetery for the graveside service.
