The DeKalb County Tigers opened the baseball season beating Sequatchie County 11-9 Tuesday in Smithville.
DC scored 11 runs on 11 hits and made 2 errors. Sequatchie County scored 9 runs on 10 hits and made 5 errors.
Skylar Sparks had 3 singles and 2RBI. Colter Norris, 2 singles and an RBI. Logan Cornelious and Derek Young each singled and 2 RBI. Luke Oliver, Grayson Redmon, and Daniel Puckett singled and Cody Antoniak doubled.
Colter Norris led things off on the pitcher’s mound for DeKalb County. He allowed 7 hits and 5 runs over 4 innings, striking out 8. He walked 2. Avery South came in and gave up 3 runs on 2 hits and walked 1. Cody Antoniak gave up 1 run and 1 hit through almost three innings. He struck out 2 and walked 1.
Collin Hudson led things off on the mound for Sequatchie County. He lasted three innings, allowing 5 hits and 4 runs while striking out 3 and walking 1. Kollyn Cooper, the losing pitcher, gave up 3 runs on 1 hit. He struck out 1 and walked 2.
The Tigers scored one run on a stolen base in the 1st inning. The Indians tied the game in the 3rd but DC scored 3 more runs to grab a 4 to 1 lead after three innings. Sequatchie County scored 4 runs in the 4th inning to take a 5 to 4 advantage but the Tigers added 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th to jump back out front 7 to 5. After the Indians scored 3 runs to take an 8 to 7 lead the Tigers knotted the game up in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring one run on a stolen base. The game was tied at 8 with the Tigers batting in the bottom of the 6th inning when Skylar Sparks singled, scoring two runs. The Tigers tacked on another run in the 6th and the Indians added one in the 7th but DeKalb County held on for the 11-9 win.
