Saints Soccer 3-1 on the Season

The 2019 Saints Soccer season is underway as the Saints currently carry a 3-1 overall record with a 1-1 Conference record.

The Saints opened the season on the road at Central Magnet in Murfreesboro on March 1st. After the Saints controlled the ball much of the first half, Miguel Mata for the Saints puts one in the back of the net to give the Saints a one-goal lead at half time. Mario Matias puts away a goal early in the second half and the Saints escapes Murfreesboro with a 2-0 victory. JV tie 0-0.

After a few cancellations, the Saints traveled to Thurman Francis in Smyrna on March 12th. After a 1-1 tie at halftime, the Saints come alive in the second half behind a hat trick from Yair Mata and win this one 5-1. JV loses 1-0.

Goals: Yair Mata (3), Miguel Mata, Brandon Silva

Cumberland United came to town for the Saints first Home and Conference game of the season on March 19th. The Saints score in the first minute of the game from a strike from Brandon Silva’s left foot and the Saints are on the board 1-0 early. Saints Forward David Suastgui scores on a header and the Saints support a 2-0 lead. Cumberland United would not go away and get a goal leaving the Saints with 2-1 lead at halftime. After some halftime adjustments, the Saints came out on fire in the second half and finish this one with a 5-2 victory. JV loses 1-0.

The Saints traveled to Algood Middle on March 22nd to face the Redskins. The Saints and Redskins found themselves in a defensive battle. Goalkeeper Robert Wheeler and defenders Ashton Campbell, Andrew Tramel, and Cooper Brown held the Redskins’ offense at bay and head to halftime scoreless. The Redskins were able to find the back of the net early in the second half and give the Saints their first loss of the season with a final score at 1-0. JV loses 4-0.

The Saints play Warren County at home on Tuesday, April 2nd at 6:00 PM and travel to Manchester for the Red Raider Invitational the weekend of April 5th and 6th.
