No Shave November Campaign Raises $680 for the American Cancer Society in Memory of Margaret Judkins

Almost $700 was raised by the Smithville Police Department through the “No Shave November” campaign. No-Shave November is a nationwide fundraiser for cancer awareness. This year’s observance was in memory of the late Margaret Judkins, mother of Smithville Police Officer Will Judkins and all proceeds went to the American Cancer Society. Almost $700 was raised by the Smithville Police Department through the “No Shave November” campaign.

No-Shave November is a nationwide fundraiser for cancer awareness. This year’s observance was in memory of the late Margaret Judkins, mother of Smithville Police Officer Will Judkins and all proceeds went to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Judkins passed away in September.

A check for $680 was presented to representatives of the DeKalb County Unit of the American Cancer Society on Friday.

All officers who chose to participate made a cash donation and others also contributed to the cause.

“At some point in time almost everyone will personally know someone afflicted with cancer. It is a privilege to work alongside fellow officers who care enough to try to make a difference,” said Police Chief Mark Collins.

Chief Collins and fellow officers Will Judkins and Captain Steven Leffew presented the check to Iva Dell Randolph, Marlene Delong, Community Representative for the American Cancer Society, and Gail Taylor.

Meanwhile the 23rd annual DeKalb County Relay for Life, the biggest local fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, is scheduled for Friday evening, May 1 beginning at 6:00 p.m. and ending at midnight at Greenbrook Park. Relay is normally held the Friday before Mothers Day but will be a week earlier this year.
