The DeKalb County Tigers suffered their first loss of the season Thursday night falling to region foe Macon County in Smithville 21-13.

The Tigers, 2-1 overall and 0-1 in region play, will host Watertown (1-2) next Friday night, September 9. The purple Tigers have defeated Gordonsville 28 to 13 but lost to Fayetteville 36 to 12 and Westmoreland 20 to 0.

In the game Thursday night, Macon County got the ball first and scored on their opening 18 play drive taking 10:46 off the clock. Quarterback Kyle Shockley scored on a 1-yard keeper with 1:16 left in the first period and with kicker Bryson Higgins’ extra point Macon County took a 7 to 0 lead.

DeKalb County answered in the second period as Quarterback Briz Trapp found Malachi Trapp on a 12-yard touchdown pass completing a 33-yard drive. Juan Ortega booted the extra point and the Tigers had tied the game at 7-7 with 8:48 left before halftime.

DC threatened to score just before the intermission, but time  expired as Tiger Holden Trapp tried to get out of bounds with the ball to stop the clock.

The black and gold Tigers got the go ahead score with 7:48 left in the third period as Briz Trapp hooked up with Josh May on an 11-yard touchdown pass. Ortega’s PAT attempt sailed wide left, but DeKalb County led 13 to 7.

Macon County grabbed the lead again with 5:37 left in the third period as Gabe Borders took a direct snap on a 4th and 2 play from mid field and rambled 50 yards for a touchdown. Higgins tacked on the extra point and the visiting Tigers led DeKalb County 14-13.

Late in the third quarter DeKalb County lost its momentum and its starting quarterback as Briz Trapp left the game with an apparent shoulder injury after being sacked on a 3rd down and long play.

Jordan Parker came in for Trapp and finished the game but in one of his first passing attempts, Parker was picked off by Borders which set up the next score for Macon County.

The visitors extended their lead on a screen pass from Shockley to Borders with 3:43 left in the game and with the Higgins extra point Macon County went onto win 21-13.

Macon County improves to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the region.
