Mitzi Sheryl Savage Lunsford peacefully departed this earthly life on March 13, 2024 with her daughter by her side. Sheryl had been living in Greenville, SC, but she was a native and long-time resident of DeKalb County, TN. She also lived in Cookeville, TN for several years where she was a member of Steven Street Baptist Church.
Sheryl’s life was marked by boldness, love, and laughter. She loved reading, country music, and a sweet cup of coffee. Her grandbabies were the light of her life, her daughters her most precious gifts, and her friends her greatest treasures.
She held positions at the shirt factory, Norvell, Body Drench, and the Middle Tennessee Times. She enjoyed being a “West School Mom” and teaching the “Jesus Jammers” at Upper Helton Baptist Church. She had wonderful memories of working at Birchie’s in her younger years and never forgot the “only correct way” to cut a pie.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Sue Barrett; stepfather, Doug (Barbara) Barrett; parental grandparents, Wade, Sr. and Dorina Savage; maternal grandparents, Mildred White and William Donald Apple; step-grandmother, Bertie Barrett; and by her sister, Melody Guinn.
She is survived by her daughter, Tayla Bree (Braden) Wade of Greenville, SC; stepdaughter, Deidre (Jerry) Vigil Cordova of Little Rock, AR; grandchildren, Luke and Judah Wade of Greenville, SC and Felex Nelson of Arkansas; two sisters, Angela Barrett (Shawn) Puckett of Smithville and Pamela Savage (Randy) Loague of Columbia, TN; and by three brothers, Lee Reynolds (Kathy Davis) of Christiana, TN, Tommy (Stacie) Barrett of Shelbyville, TN, and Bill (Tracy) Hart of Alabama.
She is also survived by her special aunt, Janice Apple; as well as many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was truly blessed with many dear friends over her lifetime.
In honor of her choice of direct cremation, a visitation and Celebration of Life will be held at Love Cantrell Funeral Home in Smithville, TN on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. A memorial service will take place directly following at 12:00 p.m.
Per Sheryl’s wishes, no flowers or gifts shall be sent to the family. She has requested donations be made in her memory to Lighthouse Christian Camp or the American Lung Association.
