Betty Jo Cantrell age 80, died Friday morning, April 19, 2024 at NHC Healthcare in Smithville. Born Jan. 23, 1944 at Temperance Hall, she was the daughter of the late Porter and Malissa Lorene Lamberson Bates. Betty Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Ray Fuston in 1996, brother, Grady Dale Bates and sister, Helen Faye Self. She was a retired school cafeteria cook and a member of Mt. View Primitive Baptist Church. Betty Jo is survived by her husband, Charles L. Cantrell of Dowelltown; daughters, Diane Smith of Alexandria and Malissia Heriot and husband, Stephen of Woodrow, SC; stepchildren, Becky Thompson and husband, Kyle of Smithville and Todd Cantrell and wife, Jenny of Smithville; grandchildren, Tiffany (Doug) Starling, Kevin Bentler, Courtney Ozment, Chandler Heriot; great grandchildren, Hadley Ozment and Tatum Starling; step grandchildren, Zach (Kelsea) Thompson, Alex Thompson, Madison and Megan Cantrell; and brother, Kenneth L. Bates. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2024 at Hunter Funeral Home with Elder Ricky Arnold officiating. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. till service time on Monday. Interment will be at the Cunningham Cemetery.
