One of the defendants arrested in a drug roundup after being indicted by a special session of the grand jury in August recently appeared for sentencing in criminal court.
30-year-old Richard Wayne Norrod of Calhoun Street, Smithville entered a plea on November 4th to the charge of unlawful sale of a schedule II drug (methamphetamine) less than 0.5 grams and received a TDOC sentence of three years suspended to 81 days of time served with the balance on supervised probation. He was fined $2,000 and must complete an alcohol and drug assessment and finish a long-term residential treatment program. The offense date was November 29, 2023.
Norrod was among several people indicted on drug charges after a joint undercover investigation by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, Smithville Police Department, and TBI that spanned several months.
