Dorothy Jean Cantrell age 80 of Smithville, passed away Thursday morning January 10, 2019 at her residence. She was born December 20, 1938 to her parents, the late Charlie and O’Fallon Hubbard Estes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.M. Cantrell; sister, Carolyn Ann Smith and great-granddaughter, Lydia Jean Cantrell. Ms. Dorothy Jean was a member of Whorton Springs Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School, Bible School, and loved many other activities in the church; she was a member of the Smithville F.C.E. club and worked as a teacher for 28 years at Head Start. Dorothy Jean enjoyed gardening and her flowers. She is survived by 3 children, Jada Cantrell, Stefan Cantrell and Kyle Cantrell all of Smithville; 2 grandchildren, Delena Cantrell and Sayla Cantrell; Several nieces and nephews and special friends Helen Hale and Gary Tripp, special neighbors Joann Bradford, Joe and Sue Foster, Jerry and Linda White; and special. church friends Kathy and Bob Frodle, June Carterm Dean and Ann Adcock, and Brother Mike Carpenter. Funeral services will be conducted 3 PM Monday, January 14, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Mike Carpenter and David Mahan officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday 11:AM until 8 PM and Monday 10:AM until the time of the service at 3 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
