Alexandria Man Pleads Guilty to Auto Burglary

An Alexandria man arrested last month for breaking into and stealing items from a semi truck was sentenced Wednesday in DeKalb County Criminal Court.

33 year old Joshua Lynn McCowan entered a plea by criminal information to auto burglary and received a two year TDOC sentence on probation. He must make restitution of $1,775 to the victim.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on Sunday, December 2, 2018 McCowan broke into and stole from a 1988 Kenworth semi-truck a Stanley 2-tier toolbox with tools, a Sear brand tool box, four chains, two rubber wheel chocks, a Tennessee license plate, semi log books, and assorted paperwork valued at $1,775.

The case was investigated by a sheriff’s department detective




Fults Gets Five Year Sentence for Attempted Aggravated Robbery

A McMinnville man charged in an attempted aggravated robbery in April 2016 was sentenced in DeKalb County Criminal Court Wednesday.

21 year old Charles Robert Fults, Jr. entered a plea to attempted aggravated robbery and received a five year sentence to serve in the Tennessee Department of Correction. The sentence is to run concurrent with a case against him in Warren County. He is under a restraining order to keep away from the victim.

A co-defendant, 22 year old Logan Tyler Martin entered a plea to the same charge last July in criminal court and also received a five year sentence to serve. The term is to run concurrently with a Warren County sentence against him and he is under a restraining order to keep away from the victim. Martin was given jail credit from April 29 to April 30, 2016 and from June 19 to July 17, 2018.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on Friday, April 29, 2016 Martin, who was age 19 at the time, drove up to a location on McMinnville Highway where the intended victim was doing some yard work. Fults, 18 years old at the time, was a passenger with Martin. Fults got out of the vehicle, pulled a silver knife as he approached the victim and demanded his wallet. When the victim refused to hand over the wallet, Fults got back in the vehicle with Martin and they drove away. After the offense was reported to authorities a Be on the Lookout (BOLO) was issued to other law enforcement agencies. The vehicle was spotted in Warren County where Fults and Martin were taken into custody.




Gora Assaults Victims Causing Serious Injuries

A Smithville man is facing two counts of aggravated assault after seriously injuring his victims.

45 year old Rodney Hugo Gora, II of 1031 South Mountain Street was arrested on January 1. According to Smithville Police Gora cut the hand of a family member with a knife and hit her in the mouth with a wooden box cutting her lip. Gora also assaulted the woman’s boyfriend by punching him in the face and hitting him in the head with a Winchester .22 caliber long rifle causing about a 3-inch gash on his head and fracturing his skull resulting in a brain bleed. Gora further pulled some of the man’s hair out which the officer found all around the house. Gora was determined to have been the primary aggressor and he was taken into custody. Bond for Gora is $40,000 and his court date is January 24.

40 year old Sebrina Ann Lattimore of 235 Toad Road was arrested on December 11 for shoplifting. Police were dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter and upon arrival spoke with a manager who witnessed Lattimore conceal merchandise in her pants and jacket. The total value of the items taken was $137.40 and consisted of clothing, batteries, and phone accessories. When confronted by law enforcement, Lattimore became belligerent, uncooperative, and refused to identify herself. Bond for Lattimore is $1,500.

67 year old Anita J. Williams of 805 King Ridge Road was cited on December 19 for passing a school bus. Williams’ vehicle was observed by law enforcement passing a school bus that had its stop sign extended. The bus was stopped on West Broad Street at Griffins Fruit Market letting children off.

27 year old Stephanie Michelle Mooneyham of 223 Toad Road was arrested on December 22 for domestic assault. Mooneyham slapped a family member across the face leaving a red mark. reportedly because she was tired of walking everywhere. Bond for Mooneyham is $2,500.

47 year old Craig Anthony Hill of 8741 Holmes Creek Road was arrested on December 24 for public intoxication. Someone heard Hill from behind a residence yelling for help. Hill told police he did not know where he was and he appeared to be nervous and could not stand still. Hill was sweating and he was not wearing shoes. Police learned that Hill had done about a half gram of methamphetamine that day. Due to his actions and for his safety Hill was taken into custody. His bond is $1,500.

48 year old Amy Dawn Curtis of 150 Kings Court Circle, lot 10 was cited on December 27 for theft of property. Curtis was observed concealing merchandise in her purse at the Dollar General Store. Her court date is January 24.

29 year old James Harmen Elkins of Reading Michigan was cited on December 27 for possession of a prohibited weapon. Elkins was pulled over for a traffic violation and while speaking with him the officer spotted a pair of brass knuckles that Elkins was trying to conceal under his buttocks.

29 year old Kayla Dianne Miller of Woodbury was cited on December 28 for theft of property. Miller was taken into custody at Wal-Mart for an outstanding failure to appear warrant. Police conducted a search incident to arrest and found in her possession several unpaid for items belonging to Wal-Mart. Her court date is January 17.

36 year old Carlos Hernan Herrera Alvarez of 215 West Main Street, apartment 6 was arrested on January 1 for aggravated assault. Police were called to a residence on Odom Street due to a domestic complaint and were informed that Alvarez and a woman had been drinking and then got into an argument during which Alvarez pulled a knife and threatened her with it. Alvarez then started to strangle the woman with one hand while waving the knife with the other. While trying to defend herself the woman’s hand and fingers were cut. She also was found to have visible marks around her neck and upper chest area. Alvarez was determined to have been the primary aggressor and he was taken into custody. Bond for Alvarez is $10,000 and his court date is January 17.

25 year old Zachary Lane Bennett of Liberty was arrested on January 2 for domestic assault. Police responded to a residence on Short Street due to a domestic complaint. Upon arrival the officer noticed that the victim had a mark on the left side of her face where Bennett had allegedly bitten her during an argument. After a further investigation police determined that Bennett was the primary aggressor and he was taken into custody. Bond for Bennett is $3,500 and his court date is January 17.

43 year old Patty Sue Tatrow of 110 Braswell Lane was cited on January 3 for simple possession. Police stopped Tatrow for a traffic violation and spotted her placing something into the center console of the vehicle. The officer asked Tatrow if she had anything illegal in the car. Tatrow replied no but she gave him consent to search. During the search approximately 2.8 grams of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana was found in the center console. Tatrow’s court date is January 24.

30 year old Raymond Howard Rollins of 165 Shady Drive was arrested for theft over $10,000 on January 6. According to police, a report was filed on December 21 concerning the theft of an Inno Fusion Splicer. During the investigation police discovered that Rollins had taken the splicer, valued at $11,000 on or about December 16 without the owner’s consent. The splicer was later recovered where a witness reported that Rollins had tried to sell it. A warrant for Rollins’ arrest was issued on December 22 and he was picked up on January 6. Bond for Rollins is $25,000.

33 year old Amy L. Knowles of 905 West Main Street, lot 4 was arrested on January 7 for domestic and aggravated assault and she was cited for simple possession. Police were called to Knowles’ home due to a physical domestic. Upon arrival the officer saw Knowles standing over, pointing, and yelling at one of her victims. He ordered her to stop and she went into the living room preparing to leave. The officer informed Knowles that she couldn’t go. She then started screaming at another victim in the house, picked up a clothes hamper and charged toward the victim trying to hit her over the head with it. The officer attempted to grab the hamper and was partially successful and the victim was able to block it as well. Police learned that all the parties had been in an argument and that Knowles had assaulted one of the victims by punching, choking, and pulling her hair. The other victim suffered a busted lip as he tried to separate them. Knowles was taken into custody. During a search incident to arrest the officer discovered 18 yellow and orange capsules believed to be 300mg Gabapentin in a plastic bag for which Knowles could provide no prescription. Bond for Knowles is $8,500 and her court date is January 31.

30 year old Bruce Carlon Cantrell of 290 Bobby Hayes Road was arrested on January 8 for public intoxication, resisting stop, frisk, halt arrest or search, and he was cited for possession of a prohibited weapon. Police responded to an accident on Hayes Street and spoke with Cantrell. He had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person. His speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet. Cantrell tried to walk away but he was told that he couldn’t leave. As the officer was conducting a search of him, Cantrell began turning around trying to keep the officer from reaching into his pockets. Then as the officer tried to cuff Cantrell he pulled away refusing to place his hands behind his back. Cantrell was then taken to the ground and cuffed without further incident. A pair of brass knuckles was found in Cantrell’s pocket. His bond is $5,000 and he will make a court appearance on January 24.

21 year old Austin Jacob Brown of Liberty was cited for not stopping when meeting a school bus on January 9 that was letting children off the bus at a residence on Broad Street. The school bus stop sign and red caution lights were active and working properly. Brown’s court date is February 7. According to the ticket he received it states that he was going east and the bus was facing west. Broad is a 5 lane road and Brown was in the far right lane going east while the bus was in the far left lane going west. According to the family, Brown didn’t realize the bus was there until it was too late because it was not in his line of sight.

23 year old Crystal M. Smith of McMinnville was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia on January 9. After conducting a traffic stop and obtaining consent to search, police found in Smith’s possession a clear jar with filters (used to filter methamphetamine) and a spoon with a filter (used to filter methamphetamine). Smith pulled the jar from her bra and informed the officer that she used the jar to transport methamphetamine. A spoon with crystal residue was found in the glove compartment of the vehicle. Smith was also cited for violation of the light law as the tail lights of her automobile were spray painted and the stop light couldn’t be seen at a 100-foot distance. Smith was further cited for violation of financial responsibility as she couldn’t provide proof of valid insurance. She will make a city court appearance on February 5 and General Sessions Court on February 7.
