Judge Issues Gag Order in Lemons Case

April 12, 2022
By: Dwayne Page

15-year-old Alex Lemons made his first appearance in DeKalb County Juvenile Court Monday.

The teen is charged in a juvenile petition with committing the delinquent act of first-degree murder and aggravated arson in the death of his father, 43-year-old Edward Lemons. The elder Lemons died in a fire at his home on December 7 at 5056 Jacobs Pillar Road, Smithville which his son is accused of setting.

The outcome of the hearing Monday has not been disclosed.

As is typical in juvenile court cases, the Lemons hearing was closed to the public, but in this case, Judge Bratten Cook, II also issued a gag order, upon an oral motion by attorneys, to prohibit all parties from making public statements, comments, or remarks respecting pending litigation in this case and that further proceedings in this matter be private and not open to the public and that all records held by the clerk not be made public.

After he was placed in custody at the Sheriff’s Department Thursday evening, the boy was taken to the Cookeville detention center pending the Monday hearing.

By:

A DeKalb County educator and former County Commissioner has announced his candidacy for the office of County Mayor.

Bradley Hendrix is seeking the GOP nomination for the office in the DeKalb County Republican Primary on Tuesday, May 3.

Hendrix’s announcement is as follows:

“Citizens of DeKalb County, my name is Bradley Hendrix, and I am seeking the Republican nomination for DeKalb County Mayor. I am a life-long resident of this county. I have been married to my beautiful wife, Lori, for seventeen years, and we have three wonderful children: Jailyn, Jacob, and Jon.”

“I have worked in the school system for 22 years as a physical education teacher and, most recently, as the supervisor of the alternative learning center. I have also been involved in a variety of sports, in different aspects, for over twenty years”.

“I believe the role of the DeKalb County Mayor should understand budget management, have a working relationship with the school board, county offices, and county commissioners, and bring growth to the community through industry and businesses. I feel that my experience as 3rd District Commissioner for eight years gives me the knowledge of how our county should be managed”.

“If given the chance to be your mayor, I will lead the county with common sense and transparency while keeping taxes low with no increased burdens on taxpayers”.

“Your support is appreciated during the early voting April 13-28, 2022 and on Election Day May 3, 2022”.
