Wilson Charged with Stealing Athletic Gear from DCHS Girls Softball Concession Stand Locker Room

A man who stole more than $4,500 worth of athletic gear from the girls softball concession stand locker room at DeKalb County High School will answer to the charges against him November 18 in General Sessions Court.

37 year old Daniel Ray Wilson of Yulanda Hills, Road Smithville is charged with burglary and theft of property over $2,500 . His bond is $27,500.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on October 4 Wilson entered the DCHS girls softball concession stand locker room and stole bats, ball gloves, helmets, fielding masks, ball bags and other items valued at $4,561 which belonged to the softball team, student athletes, and parents.

There was no damage to the building.

“Dawn” is a happy playful dog but she would be even happier if she had a home of her own.

This one year old lab mix is the WJLE/DeKalb Animal Shelter featured “Pet of the Week”

“Dawn is our longest shelter resident,” said Shelter Director Emmaly Bennett. “ She has been with us since May so we would love to find this baby a home. Dawn is fully grown. She has been spayed and micro-chipped and is up to date on all her vaccinations. Dawn is a really sweet girl. She is playful with a lot of energy and loves people especially children as well as other dogs. Her adoption fee has been reduced to $50. DeKalb School District Reported Four Cases of COVID Last Week

The DeKalb County School District reported only 4 positive cases of COVID all week from Monday, October 25 to Friday, October 29 which is up from one case reported the previous week.

There were no cases of COVID at either school Monday or Tuesday, October 25 & 26. Three cases were recorded Wednesday and Thursday all at DeKalb West School and on Friday, October 29 there were still 3 cases at DeKalb West and one case at DCHS.

The number of those under quarantine increased from 4 on Monday, October 25 to 10 on Friday, October 29.

According to Attendance Supervisor Joey Reeder, there were two under quarantine at DCHS and DeKalb Middle School on Monday, October 25. By Friday, October 29 the number increased to 10 including one at DCHS, and 3 each at DeKalb Middle School, Smithville Elementary, and DeKalb West School.

The district reported 3 absences among the staff on Friday, October 29 due to positive cases or quarantine and all 3 were in the Transportation Department.

Meanwhile the number of active COVID cases in DeKalb County as of Friday, October 29 was 40 (up from 37 a week earlier) with 4 new cases.

There have been 72 deaths in DeKalb County since the pandemic began in March 2020 (up by 2 since Friday, October 22) and 108 have been hospitalized.

At last report a total of 8,660 people (42.3%) have received at least one dose of COVID vaccine and 7,467 (36.4%) are fully vaccinated in DeKalb County.

Over the last seven days, (October 22-28) DeKalb County had a case count of 30 for a daily case rate of 20.9 per 100,000 residents.

For the most recent 14 days, (October 15-21) DeKalb County’s case count was 53 for a daily case rate of 18.5 per 100,000 residents.

For the 14 days prior (October 1 to October 14), the case count was 92 for a daily case rate of 32.1 per 100, 000 residents.

From March 5, 2020 to October 28, 2021, DeKalb County has had a total of 4,211 confirmed or probable cases of COVID-19 for a daily case rate of 34.1 per 100,000 residents.

Over the last 7 days the average percent positive was 14.6%.
