Liliana Maria Lopez

Liliana Maria Lopez the stillborn infant daughter of Joan and Alissya Coronado Lopez, was stillborn Sunday July 4, 2021 at St. Thomas River Park Hospital in McMinnville. She is survived by her parents, Joan and Alissya Coronado Lopez of Smithville; sister, Cecilia Lynn Lopez of Smithville; maternal grandparents, Martin and April Coronado of Smithville; paternal grandparents, Pedro Lopez of Mexico and Paz Lopez of Mexico; 4 uncles, Diego Coronado, Junior Coronado, Michael (Jessica) Coronado, Jose Lopez,; 2 aunts, Angeles Lopez and Carmen Lopez; several cousins also survive. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 1 PM with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial to follow in Cannady Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 11:AM until the time of service at 1 PM. The funeral home lounge is closed at this time and no food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Phillip Morris Inglis

July 6, 2021

Mr. Phillip Morris Inglis, age 80 of Dayton, Maryland & a native of the Short Mountain community, passed away July 1, 2021 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

Phillip was born on June 4, 1941 in Smithville, TN to his parents, the late William “Willie” & Wilma Josephine Cantrell Inglis. He was raised in the Short Mountain community of DeKalb County and eventually married Mrs. Judy Ann Webb on October 3, 1975. Phillip was a graduate of Tennessee Technological University. He was a retired Engineer with the FCC and the consulting firm started, T.R.P Inc. and he was a world traveler, letting nothing stand in his way of his goal or destination. Phillip was a member of the Lighthouse Church in Mayland.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 11am in the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Wendell Judkins will officiate and burial will follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, from 4-8pm & Thursday from 10am until the service time at 11am.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Judy Ann Webb Inglis of Dayton, MD. Daughter, Janie (J.P.) Monier of New Market, MD. Grandchildren, Cole Baptiste Monier & Connor Declan Monier both of New Market, MD. Brother, William Harold (Rosario) Inglis of Columbia, MD.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital in memory of Mr. Inglis.

Mary “Emaline”London

July 4, 2021

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary “Emaline”London, age 91 will be held Thursday, July 8th at 1:00 p.m. in the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Jeff London and Brett Flowers will officiate. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Social distancing and masks are appreciated.

Mrs. London died Thursday July 1, 2021 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

She was born October 30, 1929 in Grundy County, TN to the late George Pocus and Millie Barker McCullough. She attended Grundy County High School.

Emaline was a homemaker and later worked at Park View school. She also served as the director for the Cookeville Senior Citizen’s Meals on Wheels Program. She was a long time member of Park View Methodist Church (Friendship United Methodist Church). She loved everyone and was loved by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by daughter, Vicki Vickers; brother, Jerry Pocus; and by sisters, Anna Meadows and Yvonne Wachob.

Mrs. London is survived by, as she called them her “precious” family, her husband of nearly 73 years, Jim London; daughters, Jill (Gary) Flatt of Cookeville and Sharon (George) Simmons of Signal Mountain, TN; son, Steve (Debbie) London of Smithville; son-in-law, Cleston Vickers; sister, Donna Dixon of Jasper, TN; grandchildren, Jeff (Dana) London, Danielle (Brett) Flowers, Christy Vickers, Andy Simmons and Kelly (Andy) Beck; great grandchilren, Eli Flowers, Caleb (Libby LaFever) London, Courtney London, Piper Beck and Griffin Beck; and by great-great grandson, Jonah London.

Brett Flowers, Caleb London, Cleston Vickers, Jeff London, Andy Simmons, Andy Beck and Griffin Beck will serve as pallbearers.

A special thank you to Dr. Kathy Bertram for all her years of care. Also a thank you to CRMC’s 6 East staff for taking such good care of her.

Ruth Ann Lawson

Ruth Ann Lawson age 64 of Smithville passed away Saturday morning June 26, 2021 at her residence. She was born October 11, 1956 to her parents, the late Hobert & Betty Tittle Linnear. Ms. Ruth was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Matthew Lawson; brother, Hobert Lawson, Jr.; and aunt, Ada Ruth “Bug” Lanier. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday June 29, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Charlie Lawson & Shonnie Sanders officiating and burial to follow in the Jennings Cemetery in Statesville. Visitation with the family will be Monday 4 PM until 7 PM and Tuesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. Survivors include her husband of 48yrs. Bro. Charlie Lawson of Smithville; Children: Diane (Shonnie) Sanders of Smithville, Amy Lawson (Craig) of Smithville, Mark (Brandy) Lawson of McMinnville, Virginia (Chad) Carrier of Smithville; Grandchildren: Mordecai, Elisabeth, Isaac, John, Molly, Emily, Travis, Trevor, Kalli, Clark, Austin, Naomi, Traven, McKenzie, & Colby; 9 Great-Grandchildren and 2 special friends, Sister Peanut and Sister Sally. Donal Gene Koons

Mr. Donal Gene Koons age 79 of Smithville passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at his home. He was born November 1, 1941 to his parents, the late Aaron Gentry and Virginia Ann Monks Koons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 children, Kimberly Kay Koons and Kellie Darlene Koons; siblings, Chester Koons, Aaron Koons, Jr., Harold Koons and Ronnie Koons. Donal was affiliated with the Baptist Church. He was a member of the V.F.W., Moose Lodge, Eagles, a coach and avid teacher for young boys. He taught Manatee Art League, teaching sculpting and painting. Mr. Koons served on the Police Department in Yorktown, IN for a few years and he worked with Norfolk & Western Railroad and also with Costal Oil. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia “Ginny” Koons of Smithville; 4 children, Donal (Edith) Koons, Jr. of Oxford, NC, Daniel (Cindy) Koons of Henderson, NC, Dean Koons of Smithville, Shelly (Scott) Dery of Smithville; 6 grandchildren, Donny Hedge, Chad Hedge, Nicole Lewis, Jamie Wells, Scott Dean, Cody Dery; 4 great-grandchildren; brother Robert Koons of Muncie, IN. The family has honored Mr. Koons request to be cremated and no services are planned. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses, in memory of Mr. Koons. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Nora Lee Pirtle Young

June 24, 2021

Mrs. Nora Lee Pirtle Young, age 90, passed away Wednesday evening at The Webb House Retirement Center in Smithville. Mrs. Young was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Eastern Star & the Red Hat Club. She was a retired bookkeeper with Young’s Auto Parts.

She was preceded in death by her husband Barney Young, Parents Shelah & Lottie Pirtle and several brothers & sisters.

Survivors include 2 Sons: Mike Young and D.Y. & Deb Young of Smithville, 4 Grandchildren: Wesley & Melissa Young of Baxter, Tia & Brandon Puckett, Sommer Britt & Tony Luna all of Smithville and Hunter & Sarah Collins of Lebanon, 4 Great-Grandchildren: Wyatt & Lanie Young of Baxter and Jackson & Maverick Puckett of Smithville, Sister-In-Law: Dora & Dan Cummings and one niece- Jo Luna all of Sparta.

Visitation with the Young family will be on Saturday from 10am until the funeral at 2pm in the chapel at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.

In addition to flowers the family has asked that donations be made to First Baptist Church Youth Group. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
