Michael Wayne Hall age 58 of Lancaster, passed away Monday morning, November 19, 2018 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER. He was born January 12, 1960 to his parents, the late Robert Rex and Virginia Ruth Pinegar Hall. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 siblings, Barbara Ruth Hall and Robert Dwayne Hall. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, a member of the Wheelcats and On Target 4 Vets. He was disabled and previously worked as a iron worker. He is survived by his wife, Deanne Hall of Lancaster; 6 siblings, Linda Fay Brown of Smyrna, Delores Jean (Paul) Hobbs of McMinnville, Charles Alvin (Charlene) Hall of Clarksville, Myron Douglas Hall of Cleveland, Susan Marie Hall of Smyrna and Kathleen Elaine (David) Gartung of Smyrna; several nieces and nephews. The family has honored Michael’s request to be cremated and a Private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements

Nell Ray Rankhorn

86 year old Nell Ray Rankhorn of the Belk Community in Smithville passed away Saturday at NHC in Warren County. She was a homemaker, member of the New Union The Baptist Church, and a lifetime member of the Eastern Star (Center Hill Lodge). The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Garry McBride and Marty Hensley will officiate and burial will be in the New Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from noon until 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Thurman and Lula Lakey Ray; her husband, John Lenard Rankhorn; three sisters, Imogene Rogers, Lois Ray, and Ruth Ray; and three infant sisters preceded her in death as well as five brothers, Burnice George, J.T., Clayton, and Donald Ray; a daughter, Sharon Bouldin; and two grandsons, Keilin and Carson Hensley. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Garry McBride of Smithville and Tamara and Marty Hensley of Rock Island. One son, Michael Rankhorn of Smithville. Seven grandchildren, Chris and Betsy McBride of Quebec, Stephanie and Jeff Walls of Rock Island, Jennifer and Paul Davis of McMinnville, Natalie and Mike Jennings of Cookeville, Johnna Hensley and her fiancé Bobby Wright of Sparta, Peyton Hensley and Elijah Hensley both of Rock Island. Thirteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In addition to flowers, donations may be made to the New Union Cemetery.

Joseph William “Joe” Darrah age 83 of Smithville, passed away Friday morning, November 16, 2018 at NHC HealthCare Center in Smithville. He was born October 29, 1935 in Marietta, Ohio to his parents, the late George William and Geneva Lutman Dye Darrah. Mr. Joe worked in personnel and labor relations and also as quality control at Firestone and retired from Federal Mogul Automotive. He was a faithful member of the Smithville Church of Christ. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 60 years, Carol Darrah of Smithville; 5 children, Elain (Tom) Marcrom of Manchester, Elizabeth (Darryl) Boyette of Homestead, FL, Caroline Darrah of Cookeville, Ed (Joy) Darrah of Des Moines, IA and Susan Darrah of Cookeville; 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Dr. David (Marsha) Darrah of Smithville and several nieces and nephews. The family has honored Mr. Joe’s request to be cremated and a Celebration of Life Service will be held 6:PM Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at the Smithville Church of Christ with Family and Friends officiating. In addition to flowers, the family ask donations to be made to the Hope for Haiti’s Children a ministry of the Church of Christ or to the Smithville Church of Christ Work Camp ministry, in memory of Joe. Visitation with the Darrah family will be on Tuesday from 4:PM until 6:PM at the Smithville Church of Christ. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

68 year old Ernest Gray Murphy of Smithville passed away Friday, November 16 at NHC Smithville. He was a self employed concrete finisher. A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 2 at 5 p.m. at the Smithville Nazarene Church. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 p.m. until the memorial service at 5 p.m.. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnel and Della Hale Murphy; one son, William Michael Murphy; a brother, William Selmar Murphy; and a sister, Minnie Lee Poss. Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie and Brian Leist and Veronica and Gary Johnson all of Smithville. Four grandchildren, Christian and Nick Underhill, Mikey Steinbach, Alexis Atnip and Savanna Murphy all of Smithville. Five sisters, Frances and George Fincher of McMinnville, Dimple and Charles Blanchfield, Donna and Mike Hewell all of Smithville, Darlene and David Griffith of Gassaway and Denise Redmon of Soddy Daisy and mother of his children, Drenda Murphy of Smithville. Ruth Huff Guerrant age 58 of Nashville, passed away Sunday in Nashville. She was born February 22, 1960 to her parents, the late Sam and Lenora Hatfield McCoy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Lewis; 2 brothers, James and Daniel McCoy. She was a telemarketer and a member of the Church of Christ. Ruth is survived by 2 sons, Joseph Huff Ray and Johnny Huff Ray both of Smithville; grandsons, Braxton Linder and Christopher Lewis, Jr.; husband, David Guerrant of Nashville; companion, Jerry; 4 sisters, MaryAnn Paxton of Princeton, WV, Brenda Collier of Cleveland, Ohio, Pauline Dotson of Ransom, KY and Maxine Huddleston of Cleveland, Ohio; 2 brothers, Samuel McCoy and David McCoy both of Cleveland, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted 1 PM Monday, November 19, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Visitation with the family will be on Monday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses. DeKalb Funeral Chapel in in charge of the arrangements.
