Lisa Joyce Carr, a lifelong resident of Smithville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at NHC of Smithville. Born on November 29, 1969, in Smithville, Lisa was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew her. She was a 1990 graduate of Cookeville High School and a devoted member of the Church of Christ. Despite being bedridden for the last 10 years of her life, Lisa’s spirit and love for her family never wavered.
Lisa’s life was marked by her unwavering faith and the deep bonds she shared with her family and friends. She is survived by a loving and extensive family, including her aunt and uncle, Joyce & James Meadows of Smithville; cousins, Jimmy (Penny) Meadows of Smithville, Bradley (Ashley N.) Harris of Monterey, Ashley L. (India) Harris of Rickman, Sonya (Levi) Phillips of Monterey, Jacob Harris of Monterey, Trevor Harris of Monterey, Michael David White of Baxter, Glen (Jill) Herren of Cookeville, Kevin Thomas of Baxter, and Jared Herren of Silver Point. Lisa also leaves behind her stepmother, Vicky Callahan of Cookeville, and her children, Jonathan Callahan of Cookeville, and Elizabeth (Kevin) Marengo of Cookeville; her aunt, Claudine (Dennis) Tucker of Cookeville, and her uncles, Mickey (Maggie) Carr and Steve Carr, all of Cookeville.
Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Carolyn Sue Lewis Carr, and her grandparents, Joe and Vera Herren Lewis, as well as Robert and Rosalee Carr. Her family cherishes the memory of her kind-hearted nature and her ability to find happiness in the simplest moments.
Throughout her life, Lisa formed a tapestry of relationships that extended beyond her family. She was known for her gentle spirit and her ability to inspire those around her with her courage and resilience. Her presence was a comforting one, and she will be remembered for her love of life, her faith, and the strength she displayed in the face of adversity.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Denise Dingle and staff, Gentiva Hospice, and the caregivers at NHC of Smithville for their compassionate care and support during Lisa’s final days. Their dedication to her well-being provided comfort not only to Lisa but also to those who loved her.
A funeral service to celebrate Lisa’s life will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 1 pm at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Harris officiating. The service will be a time for friends and family to gather, share memories, and honor the life of a remarkable woman. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Baxter.
Visitation for Lisa Joyce Carr will be on Saturday from 11 am until the time of service at 1 pm, at the funeral home. It will be an opportunity for those whose lives were touched by Lisa to pay their respects and offer comfort to one another.
Lisa’s legacy is one of love, faith, and perseverance. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. As we say goodbye to Lisa, we celebrate the life she lived and the impact she made on her community and beyond.

Mary Jo Kirby Puckett

Mrs. Mary Jo Kirby Puckett, age 102 of Smithville, passed away Thursday night, August 1, 2024, at her residence. She was a lifelong member of the Smithville First United Methodist church and a homemaker. She was a special person to all who knew her. Her sweet and kind nature will never be forgotten. She shined daily with gratitude and happiness.
She was born on November 14, 1921 in Smithville, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents; Savage Monroe and Dolly Cope Kirby, 2 husbands; Clyde Helm and MT Puckett, 3 brothers; Virgil Kirby, Edward Kirby and Clyde Kirby, 2 sisters; Ruetta Close and Dell Reynolds.
Visitation with the Puckett family will be on Saturday from 10:00 am until the service time at 12:00 pm in the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Her great nephew, Chad Kirby, will hold the service. Burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include her daughter; Merle Sandlin of Smithville, granddaughter; Jenny (Ted) Sauls of Murfreesboro, several nieces and nephews also survive. A special thank you to her caregivers and all those who have shown her love over the past few months. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Anthony Taylor

Anthony “Tony” Taylor, age 63, passed away July 28, 2024 at Alive Hospice of Murfreesboro. He was born in Smithville and has lived most of his life in Rutherford County. Tony worked as a sheet metal fabricator with H&M Sheet Metal.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Winnie Summers Taylor; in-laws, Carl “Redd” Reynolds and Dorothy Reynolds; brother, Buddy; and sisters, Faye Lohorn, Linda Kilgore and Christine Reeder. He is survived by his wife, Vickie Reynolds Taylor; son, Miles (Quincey) Taylor; daughter, Stephanie Taylor (Wesley Faulkerson); brothers, Jerry Taylor, Jimmy Taylor, Ronnie Taylor, Ricky (Diane) Taylor; sisters, Darlene Taylor, Mary Ludy, Peggy (Ralph) Tramel, Sandy (Kenneth) Pinegar, Judy (Ronnie) Redmon; brother-in-law, Darrell (Tessa) Reynolds; grandchildren, Lizzie and Anna Faulkerson, Olivia and Ben Taylor; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home.
Chapel service will be 12:00 PM, Friday, August 2, 2024 at Jennings and Ayers with Jason Lohorn officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Leonard Harold Dickens

Leonard Harold Dickens, age 76 of Smithville, passed away on July 26, 2024 at Ascension St Thomas Rutherford in Murfreesboro. He was retired from being self-employed for many years. He owned Pates Ford Market for 25 years, and formerly served on the DeKalb County Beer Board, Dekalb County Commission and was a longtime DeKalb County Volunteer Fireman. He was born January 7, 1948 to his parents, the late Ellis and Tessie Midgett Dickens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie Dickens, sisters Irene (Jewel) Lockhart, Goldie (Belvie) Adams, Billie Sue (Douglas) Jones and brother, James (Wanda) Dickens. Leonard is survived by his daughter, Katrina (Kenny) Cubbins and son Len (Tammy) Dickens of Smithville. Grandchildren Kelly (Nathan) Lawson, Kyra (Daniel) Juneau, Lenzi (Jarrett) Adams and Madison Dickens. Great grandchildren Brayden Juneau, Bella Hutchins, Haivynn Overton, Camron Juneau, Kylie Juneau, Wrennen Welch, Andrew Lawson, Emma Jo Wagner, Katie Beth Lawson and Kailen Jude Dickens all of Smithville. He is also survived by a sister, Ann (Johnny) Roseberry of Nashville and a brother, David (Cathy) Dickens of Hendersonville, along with a host of nieces and nephews. His family has chosen a direct cremation with a Memorial Graveside Service on Friday at 6 PM at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. There will be a Memorial Visitation on Friday, August 2 from 4 PM until 5:45PM at which time the family will go to the cemetery for the graveside memorial service. The family would like to thank Tim Tobitt & the staff of Good Health Family Clinic, Suncrest Home Health, Ascension St Thomas Rutherford and Gentiva Hospice for the care given. Charles Lane Keith

Mr. Charles Lane Keith, Age 54 of Newport, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024 at Tennova Turkey Creek Medical Center.
He was born on October 6, 1969 in Nashville. He was preceded in death by his parents; Bobby and Paulette Keith.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday from 2:00 to 6:00 pm in the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife; Amanda Keith, 3 sons; Ethan Keith, Gaven Keith and Peyton Keith all of Newport, sister; Dori Keith of Smithville, bro-in-law; David (Leigh) Zabower of Strawberry Plains, nieces; Kayla Mooneyham, Katie McCoy and Carrie Mooneyham all of Smithville, nephew; Daven Zabower, nieces; Carrie Moon and Sarah Zabower all of Strawberry Plains.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations please be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.
