Glenn Nixon

Glenn Nixon age 67, of Smithville passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital, ER. He was born October 31, 1956 to his parents the late, James Fletcher and Shirley Nixon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by step-son, Chris Turner; step-daughter, Jessica Ann Flint; mother of his children, Robin Carlene Creel; and his 2nd wife, Ovis Ann Nixon. Mr. Nixon worked as Self-employed Plumber. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Nixon of Smithville; son, George (Nikki) Nixon of AL.; grandchildren, Natalie Nixon, Blakelee Nixon; step-grandchild, Mason Westbrook; brother, Fletcher (Sue) Nixon of GA.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John (Kerri) Turner of Smithville; step-daughter, Jenny Baker; step-son, Paul Flint; 3 step-children, Jenny Hall, Lorie Rupp, and LeAnn Maretti. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, January 8, 2024, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel, with John Adam Turner officiating and burial to follow in Woods Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 11:AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Nancy Ann Wiebel

January 6, 2024

Nancy Ann Wiebel age 74, of Smithville, passed away at her residence January 5, 2024. She was born January 12, 1949, to her parents the late Dean and Mary Stock. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister DeeDee Kellogg. She worked as a Pharmacist Tech. Mrs. Nancy volunteered at the Hope Center and was very active with the Smithville Senior Citizens, where she enjoyed playing volleyball. She is survived by husband of 56 years, Ted Wiebel of Smithville; son, John (Wiebke) Wiebel of Smithville; daughter, Mariann (Joseph) Sigillo of New York; grandchildren, Mia, Jacob, Matteo, and Sara; brother, John Swinbourne of Maine; sister, Georgia Wattam of Washington. The family has honored her request to be cremated. Visitation will be held Monday January 8, 2024 at 10:AM until 4 PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel, with a brief service at 4 PM. She will be inurned at St. John of Jerusalem Cemetery in Wantagh, New York at a later date. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Carolyn Bain Braswell

January 5, 2024

Mrs. Carolyn Bain Braswell, age 76 of Smithville, passed away Thursday evening at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. She was a faithful member of the Faith Tabernacle Church of the Pentecost. She served as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, and foremost 1st Lady and co-founder of Faith Tabernacle Church of Pentecost. Carolyn was a wonderful southern cook and shared her passion of cooking as an employee with L.B.J. & C. HeadStart Centers located in Smithville and the Midway community, Rock Island, TN for 30 years. After retiring she returned to work in the Warren County School System Nutrition Department at Hickory Creek Elementary School and Dibrell Elementary School for 15 years. Mostly, she loved her Lord and served him with all her might. Her greatest accomplishment was her 4 children that she loved but also a mother to so many who regarded her the title of mother. Carolyn loved to garden. She grew the best vegetable gardens along with beautiful flower gardens this side of Heaven. Her green thumb was known to many as she supplied numerous friends with irises, peonies, roses and her famous ornamental banana trees.

Carolyn was born on August 18, 1947 in DeKalb County, TN. Her parents were Buddy Sam & Esta Mae Davis Bain both whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by 4 brothers, James, Turney, Buddy Jr., & Jerry Bain, 3 sisters, Trudy Brown Bain, Henrietta Estes and Rachel Taylor.

Visitation with the Braswell family will be on Sunday from 1:00 to 8:00 pm and on Monday 9:00 am until the service at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Dr., Rev. Carroll Lawson and Bro. Jason Nunley will officiate and burial will follow in DeKalb Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Rev. Jerry L. Braswell of Smithville, 4 children, Debbie Taylor Luna of McMinnville, Garry Hale of KY, Kim (James) Evans and Brent Estes all of Murfreesboro, 7 grandchildren, Meshia Hammers, Jordan Roller, Ryan Taylor, Makenzie Stanley, Megan Evans, Samuel Lawson & Hannah Lawson, 10 great-grandchildren, sister, Shirley Hale of Liberty, brother, David (Sandra) Bain of Smithville and special cousin, Annie Mae Walker.

To keep Carolyn’s memory alive the family wanted to share her recipe of her famous banana cake. 1 box of yellow cake mix, 3 to 4 ripe bananas and 1 box of vanilla pudding. Directions: prepare yellow cake mix by directions on the box. Blend bananas in with cake mixture. Blend vanilla pudding into mix. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or done. Icing: 4 cups of powdered sugar, 2 packs of cream cheese (softened) and 1 T of vanilla flavoring. Mix and blend.




Dean Cook

January 3, 2024

Mrs. Dean Cook age 87 of Smithville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning January 2, 2024 at her home. She was born March 27, 1936 to her parents, the late Thomas Clayton and Prudie Spencer Hale Pinegar. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, TJ Pinegar and Charles “Toots” Pinegar. She was a hairdresser for over 50 years and owned Dean’s Beauty Shop. Mrs. Dean was a faithful charter member of Calvary Baptist Church. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 69 years, Gene Cook of Smithville; 3 children, Ronnie (Debbie) Cook of Piney Flats, TN; Cathy (Dwain) Snow and Tina (David) Gash both of Smithville; 7 grandchildren, Jacob (Katie) Cook, Jonathan (Kari) Cook, Jay (Victoria) Cook, Eric (Cindy) Snow, Andy (Laura) Snow, Caleb (Makenzy) Gash and Callie (Caleb) Cantrell; 14 great-grandchildren, Paxton, Clara, Emery, Levi, Topher, Trey, Brody, Addy, Ansley, Allie, Callie, Oliver, Ruby and Britton; several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews and her Calvary Baptist Church family. Graveside services and interment will be 2 PM Thursday, January 4, 2024 at DeKalb Cemetery with Bro. Jason Lohorn officiating. There will not be any services or visitation at the funeral home. Family and friends will meet at DeKalb Cemetery for the 2 PM Service. In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Calvary Baptist Church building fund, in memory of Mrs. Dean. The family would like to express their appreciation to Lisa, Teresa, Kay, Rebecca and Robbie for the love and care shown to Mrs. Dean. Kimberly Ann Smith

January 1, 2024

Kimberly Ann Smith, age 59 of McMinnville, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Ascension St. Thomas West in Nashville. She was a retired waitress.

She was born on October 19, 1964 in Newton, New Jersey. Her father, Ray Smith, and husband, Thomas Sutphen preceded her in death.

She is survived by her fiance, Mark James Foreman, 1 son, Christopher Smith both of McMinnville, 3 daughters, Alexis Sutphen (Brian McKnight) of McMinnville, Katie Sutphen of Murfreesboro and Hayley Sutphen of Rock Island, 3 grandchildren, Ethan Watts, River McKnight and Waylon Stoner, 2 sisters, Barbara Smith of Silver Point, Jenny (Keith) Lepes of FL and 2 brothers, Jim Smith Jr. of NY and Bud Smith Jr. of FL.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 1pm at Roberts-Asbury Cemetery in Rock Island, TN. There will be no visitation or services held at the funeral home. Family and friends will gather at the cemetery just prior to the 1pm service time.

Bro. Bratton Tucker

Bro. Bratton Tucker age 87, of Wartrace formerly of Smithville, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023, at his residence. He was born August 23, 1936, to his parents the late, Jesse Byrd and Jessie Alexander Hunt and his adopted parents, William Albert and Mary Alexander Tucker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death birth-family siblings, Annie Ruth Hunt Howell, Roy Sylvester Hunt, SR., Thomas Burley Hunt and infant, Janise Williams Hunt; adopted siblings, Gladys Tucker Hopkins, Nannie Grace Tucker Wilson, Sam B. Tucker, Willie Lee Tucker. Bro. Tucker was a Chaplin for American Legion in Crossville, and Winchester, Pastor Advisor for Aglow International, served in the Air Force Reserve, Retired Pastor of 50 years, and a member of the United Methodist Conference. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Fay Tucker of Wartrace, formerly of Smithville; children, Janet Tucker (Bruce) Krapf and Karen Tucker Vaughn both of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Karissa Fay Krapf, Kevin Bruce Krapf, Adam Garrett Vaughn and Brady Reed Vaughn; great-grandchildren, Currie Alden Dail, V., Judah McKellon Alexander Dail, and Annie Rae Vaughn; sister, Melba Tucker Rooker of Smyrna; sister-in-law, Helen E. Hunt of Beach Grove, TN,; several precious nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 31, 2023, at 2:00PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale, Bro. Bruce Krapf and Bro. Bernard Houk officiating and burial to follow in Banks Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 4:00PM till 7:00PM and on Sunday 12:00 Noon until the time of the service at 2:00PM. In addition to flowers the family ask donations be made to Gideons International, Soul Choir of Nashville or Domestic Violence Center of Murfreesboro.
