A Dowelltown man has been charged with child abuse or neglect after allegedly exposing a young child to cold weather too long without sufficient clothing.
60 year old Luther Wayne Tramel of 245 Sims Street Dowelltown is under a $10,000 bond and his court date is March 29. Smithville Police responded to the area of Foster Road on Wednesday, March 7 due to a civil matter regarding child custody. Upon arrival at a church, police saw Tramel holding a 21 month old in his arms but the youngster was not wearing shoes, socks, or jacket. The only clothing on the youngster was a shirt and pair of shorts. The child was shivering as the temperature at the time was 37 degrees. Tramel was taken into custody without incident due to exposing the child to cold conditions for a long period of time.
25 year old Aaron Edward Hines of 506 Big Hurricane Road was arrested on Saturday, March 3 for DUI and cited for Simple Possession and Drug Paraphernalia. According to police, Hines was found to be unconscious behind the steering wheel of a vehicle with the keys in the ignition. Upon exiting the vehicle, Hines was unsteady on his feet and his speech was slurred. He submitted to but performed unsatisfactorily on several field sobriety tasks. A BB gun pistol was found tucked in the waistband of his pants upon a pat down search incident to arrest. For the officer’s safety, Hines was asked to place items from his pockets on the hood of the patrol car. In Hines’possession were 2 glass pipes containing a white residue, 5 pills believed to be gabupentin, 5 pills believed to be oxycodone, a black bag containing several baggies and miscellaneous drug paraphernalia. Bond for Hines is $1,500.
23 year old John Austin Graham Curtis of McMinnville was arrested on Thursday, March 8 for theft of property, resisting stop, halt, frisk, or search and driving on a revoked license in Warren County. According to Smithville Police, a report was filed on Wednesday, March 7 of a truck having been stolen from a parking lot on Miller Road. The following day a deputy with the Warren County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of a vehicle off the roadway there. Upon arrival the officer spotted a man (Curtis) standing on the side of the road and when he motioned for the man to come over to him, he (Curtis) ran into the woods. The deputy subsequently caught up with the man and he was identified as Curtis. The officer learned through a computer check that Curtis’ license were revoked for a DUI in 2014 and that the vehicle was reported stolen from Smithville. Curtis was taken into custody. His bond is $31,000.
23 year old Brandon A. Zimmerman 223 East Bryant Street was arrested on Friday, March 9 for violation of an order of protection. While responding to a possible domestic incident, police spoke with Zimmerman and another person there. An identification check with Central Dispatch confirmed Zimmerman has an active order of protection against him out of Maury County and that the other person with Zimmerman is the petitioner. Zimmerman was taken into custody. There were no charges from the domestic complaint as it was determined to have only been a verbal argument. Bond for Zimmerman is $3,000 and his court date is March 29.
42 year old Jackie Dean Crumley was cited on Saturday, March 10 for simple possession. Police responded to Sober Living at 511 South College Street along with a Warren County K-9 officer to conduct a probation search. After the K-9 alerted on Crumley, he was asked to empty his pockets and wallet. Less than 0.5 grams of methamphetamine was found inside his wallet.
24 year old Jakob Brian Craven of 575 Evergreen Circle was cited on Sunday, March 11 for speeding, violation of a traffic control device/signal, and simple possession. According to police, Craven was pulled over for speeding and failing to stop at a red light on West Broad Street. Upon consent to search, 2 pills believed to be hydrocodone were discovered for which Craven had no prescription. His court date is April 5.
33 year old Micheal Rose of 225 East Bryant Street was arrested on Sunday, March 11 for criminal impersonation. Police responded to a complaint of a domestic assault and upon arrival spoke with the parties involved including Rose who initially told the officers his name was Micheal Napier and that his birthday was June 9, 1995. Police ran a check of the name and date of birth with several states but could find no record of him. After several minutes of investigation and questioning another party, police confirmed that his name is Micheal Rose and that he has several outstanding warrants against him. No arrest was made for domestic assault as there was no indication that an assault had taken place. Bond for Rose is $2,500 and his court date is April 5.
26 year old Ovidio T. Torres of Crossville was arrested on Tuesday, March 20 for a first offense of driving under the influence. After receiving the call of a possible drunk driver, police spotted a silver Mazda that matched the description of the suspect vehicle on West Broad Street and observed it swerving in and out of its lane of travel. The officer initiated a traffic stop and spoke with the driver, Torres. He could smell the odor of alcohol on Torres’ person and observed him to have blood shot watery eyes. Torres agreed to standardized field sobriety tasks but he was unable to complete them due to his condition. Torres was then taken into custody without incident. Bond for Torres is $1,500 and his court date is April 5.
36 year old Jermaica Cherome League of 104 Windham Street and 26 year old David Aaron Burton of 200 Gin Aly, Alexandria were arrested on Wednesday, March 21 for disorderly conduct. Police responded to 104 Windham Street due to a fight and possible gunshots, which were later found to be bottle rockets set off. Upon arrival the officers observed League and Burton outside arguing and yelling at each other alarming others who were witnesses to the incident. According to police, both parties caused injuries to each other and damaged each other’s vehicles. After an investigation, a primary aggressor could not be determined so both parties were charged with disorderly conduct and taken into custody. Each is under a $1,500 bond and each will make a court appearance on April 12.
28 year old Jason Kyle Shepherd of 269 Allen Street was arrested on Thursday, March 22 for criminal trespassing. Police were called after an unwanted family member showed up on property from which he had previously been warned to stay away. According to police, Shepherd showed up at the victim’s property on March 17th and was told at that time to leave and not to return nor to remove anything from there but he showed up again on March 22nd trying to take items from the garage for his father, 71 year old Donald Ray Shepherd Sr. of 304 Jacobs Pillar Road who was later arrested for violation of an order of protection. Police report that Donald Shepherd, Sr. tried to have friends and/or family members talk to his victim to persuade her to drop the order of protection against him. Donald Shepherd, Sr. is not to have contact or any communication with the victim. Both Jason and Donald Shepherd are each under a $3,500 bond and the court date for each is April 12.
