DeKalb July Local Option Sales Tax Collections Up Over Last Year

The new fiscal year has started off strong in terms of local option sales tax collections in DeKalb County.
According to the Tennessee Department of Revenue, DeKalb County took in $194,418 in local option sales taxes for July, 2021 which is up from $150,968 for July, 2020.
Collections were also up in three of the four towns in July.
In Smithville, July, 2021 local option sales taxes totaled $335,950 compared to $329,016 for July 2020. Collections for Liberty increased from $6,110 in July 2020 to $8,492 in July, 2021. Dowelltown took in $2,968 in July, 2021, an increase from $1,913 in July, 2020. Alexandria saw a slight decrease from $28,437 in July, 2020 to $27,498 in July, 2021.
Net Collections with the county and cities combined showed a jump in local option sales tax collections in July 2021 to $569,329, up from $516,447 in July, 2020.
No injuries in Friday rollover crash

Three people escaped injury Friday in a two vehicle crash on Highway 83 (Allen Ferry Road).
According to Trooper Bobby Johnson of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 20 year old MacKenzie Croy of Crossville was traveling east in a Chevy Colorado when a portion of the roadway edge crumbled causing her to overcorrect and cross the center line, striking a westbound Chevy Silverado, driven by 50 year old Michael Herren of Lebanon. 19 year old Willow Stewart of Hermitage was a passenger with Croy, Upon impact Croy’s vehicle overturned coming to a final rest in the roadway on its top.
Man on zero turn injured after his lawnmower was hit by truck

A man riding a zero turn was injured after his lawn mower was hit by a truck Friday on Highway 56 (McMinnville Highway) in the Shiney Rock area.
According to Trooper Wade Meyers of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 87 year old Erby France was on a zero turn lawn mower when he entered the road from his driveway and was hit by a northbound 1999 Chevy Silverado, driven by 40 year old Leoncio Ramirez of McMinnville who was towing two zero turn lawnmowers on a tandem axel trailer. Ramirez said when he saw France he applied his brakes and tried to stop but could not avoid the collision. France was thrown from his lawn mower upon impact and landed in the roadway. He was taken to the hospital by EMS but was reported to be alert and talking at the time. The truck and trailer jackknifed and went off the northbound side of the road into a ditch.
Ramirez was not injured but was cited for driving on a suspended license and no insurance.
