American Job Center to Host Job Fair Today (Thursday, April 29)

The American Job Center, TN Dept of Labor, and Upper Cumberland Workforce Development Board are hosting a Job Fair on Thursday April 29th from 9am to 1pm at the DeKalb County Complex Community Center Auditorium, 712 S. Congress Blvd in Smithville.

This hiring event will include open interviews and immediate job offers. It is open to all employers and currently Ficosa, NHC HealthCare, Bonnell Aluminum, Star Manufacturing, Tenneco, Bledsoe County Correctional Complex, and Resource Manufacturing have committed to attend.

American Job Centers provide free help to job seekers for any career and employment-related needs. Career counselors are available to work with you to identify interests, assess skills or abilities, and advise on jobs and training opportunities.

The American Job Center (AJC) is a partnership of organizations, working as a team, to promote a universal approach to providing effective workforce assistance to job seekers and businesses. This collaboration of state, regional, and local organizations is designed to provide a seamless delivery system of programs, services and training.




DMS Golf Team Competes at District and Alison Poss Qualifies for Region

The Dekalb County Middle School golf team competed at the TMSGA M3 district tournament on Monday April 26. The boys team placed 5th overall out of 11 teams

Competing were Abram Koegler, Owen Snipes, Cooper Goodwin, Jamison Troncoso and William Blair.

The girls team placed fourth of 7 teams. Competing were Alison Poss, Chloe Boyd and Mylie Phillips.

By virtue of a third place overall individual score, Alison Poss qualified for the regional tournament to be held May 10/11 at Two Rivers Golf Course




Smithville Woman Ejected in Rollover Crash

A Smithville woman was injured after being ejected from her car during a rollover crash Saturday night on Big Rock Road.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 24 year old Haley Jada Sosa was traveling southbound in a 2007 Nissan Altima at a high rate of speed when the car went into a slide on the wet road, struck a ditch, and overturned several times taking out about 300 feet of five strand wire fencing, steel, wooden posts, and a panel gate before coming to a final rest upright, facing west. Sosa was unrestrained and ejected from the vehicle. She suffered several injuries. The passenger, 40 year old Antony Goodwin of Smithville was restrained and only suffered minor injuries.

Meanwhile a Pleasant Hill man was injured in a wreck last Friday on Medley Amonette (Buffalo Valley) Road.

66 year old Tony Chrisman was traveling northbound on Buffalo Valley Road in a 2004 Winn Motorhome when he crossed the center line while negotiating a curve, ran off the road to the left and struck a ditch. After impact the Motorhome continued moving until it struck a standing tree.

Chrisman , injured in the accident, was wearing a seatbelt.
