Although his facial markings may resemble the dog “Petey” from the old Our Gang or Little Racscals comedy shorts from the 1920s to 40s, the DeKalb Animal Shelter’s “Petey” is not looking to land a role on the big screen but to find a home.

“Petey” is about a three year old American bulldog mix. He is full of energy and does well on a leash. He is one of our new residents here at the shelter. We are working on getting Petey’s skin conditions under control as he is a white dog and we don’t know his history but he has done really well at the shelter. He is a big guy about 80 pounds and is really sweet. He would prefer to be the only dog in the household because he is so big and a little dominant but he is not typically dog aggressive.. We have a subsidy of $50 off our $180 adoption fee so Petey’s adoption fee is $130,” said Shelter Director Megan Moore
“If you would like to meet “Petey” go to our website under our adoptable animals tab at https://www.dekalbanimalshelter.com/ and you will be called to set up an appointment after you fill out an adoption application. For more information call 615-597-3647 or send a message on facebook or email,” said Director Moore.

An investigation by special agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has resulted in the indictment and arrest of a Smithville man on charges of rape of a child.
At the request of 13th District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway, in August 2020, TBI agents began investigating a report of a sexual offense that had occurred in Smithville earlier in the month. As the result of the investigation, agents developed information that David Nichols was responsible for the sexual assault of the victim.
On March 29th, the DeKalb County Grand Jury returned indictments charging 45 year old David Wayne Nichols with two counts of Rape of a Child and one count of Aggravated Sexual Battery. Nichols was arrested by members of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department and TBI agents. He was booked into the DeKalb County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond.
