(UPDATED) Number of Active COVID-19 Cases in DeKalb County hits new High at 2047

DeKalb County’s number of active COVID-19 cases has jumped to 204 as of Monday, November 16. Twenty one new cases were documented on Monday

The COVID related death count in DeKalb County since March is 19.

Meanwhile, the DeKalb County Health Department has announced extended hours one day only for COVID-19 Drive Through Testing in DeKalb County on Monday, November 23 from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the health department at 254 Tiger Drive, Smithville

There have been 992 confirmed or probable cases of COVID-19 since March in DeKalb County , 32 have been hospitalized, and 769 are now inactive or have recovered.

Over the last seven days, (November 9 to November 15) DeKalb County had a case count of 148 for a daily case rate of 103.2 per 100,000 residents. That’s an increase from the seven day period of (November 4-10), when the case count locally was 109 for a daily case rate of 76 per 100,000 residents.

Over the last 14 days, (November 2-15), DeKalb County’s case count was  216 for a daily case rate of 75.3 per 100,000 residents.

For the 14 days prior (October 19 to November 1) the case count was 124 for a daily case rate of 43.2 per 100,000 residents.

From March 5 to November 15, 2020, DeKalb County has had a total of 971 confirmed or probable cases of COVID-19 for a daily case rate of 19.5 per 100,000 residents.

Over the last 7 days DeKalb County has averaged 89.96 tests per day (438.5 tests per 100,000 residents) and over the last 7 days the average percent positive was 10.3%.




One Injured in Friday Night Crash

One person was injured in a two car crash Friday night at the intersection of Highway 70 & 83 near Kilgore’s Restaurant.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 65 year old James Slatten of Rock Island was traveling on Highway 70 in a 2017 Nissan Rogue as 18 year old Braxton Hutchings of Smithville was heading in the opposite direction on Highway 70 in a 1999 Honda Civic. The crash occurred as one vehicle crossed the path of the other while turning into the parking lot of Kilgore’s Restaurant

Slatten was injured and taken by EMS to Ascension Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital

Members of the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department were also on the scene to assist.




DeKalb County Health Department Offering Free Drive Through Flu Vaccines November 19

The DeKalb County Health Department is offering drive through  flu vaccines at no charge to the community during a special “Fight Flu TN” vaccination event November 19.

“Getting a flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself, your family and others in our community from the flu,” said DeKalb County Health Department Director, Michael Railling. ”The flu can make you very sick, keep you away from work, school and other activities, put you in the hospital or even take your life. We urge everyone in DeKalb County who hasn’t received a flu shot yet to get one now, and this event is a great time to do it.”

The DeKalb County Health Department will provide flu shots November 19 at no cost to anyone who wishes to receive one at the DeKalb County Health Department from 9am to 3pm. All drive through, so please remain in your vehicle.

The DeKalb County Health Department recommends a yearly flu vaccine for everyone ages six months and older. The flu vaccine is especially important for infants, young children, pregnant women, adults over age 50 and those with chronic medical conditions. The flu shot remains the best protection against influenza.
