Registration Deadline Approaching for March 3 Primaries

January 23, 2020

With the March election only weeks away, the DeKalb County Election Commission is reminding voters of some upcoming important dates.

Persons who are not registered need to do so no later than February 3 in order to be eligible to vote in March. “Any new voter registration received after February 3 will not be processed until after the March election,” said Administrator Dennis Stanley. “Therefore, the voter would not be eligible to vote until the August elections.”

In addition, current voters are reminded to keep their residential address up to date with the election office.

“When a voter fails to update their address at the election office, they experience a slight delay when they arrive to vote because they have to fill out a form with the correct address and, on election day, may even have to go to another location to vote,” said Stanley. “That’s why it is very important to update your address with our office. No one wants to experience delays and we want to make the voting process go as smooth as possible.”

“Registering to vote, updating your address, or checking your registration status is easy, fast and secure through the Secretary of State’s online voter registration system at GoVoteTN.com,” he added, “or by simply calling the election office at 597-4146.”

Early voting begins February 12 and runs through February 25. Early voting is held on the first floor of the DeKalb County Courthouse in Smithville. Hours vary and are as follow: Mondays 1 to 5 p.m. (except no voting on Presidents Day); 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursdays and 9 a.m. until Noon on Saturdays. Election day hours at 15 locations are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Election information can be found at www.dekalbelections.com and is routinely available at wjle.com.

Scam Alert: Buyers Beware When Purchasing Hunting and Fishing Licenses

January 23, 2020
By: Dwayne Page

Sportsmen beware! A scam website has been detected by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. There is a new bogus website that appears when you Google Tennessee fishing license.
The scam website appears as an advertisement during a Google Search for “Tennessee Fishing License.” The site then allows you to enter your personal information, such as name, date of birth, social security number, driver’s license number, phone number, email address and residential address. It gathers this info, but never asks for payment for the license.

This website appears to have been created outside the United States, and the TWRA is working to get the site shut down. TWRA encourages anyone who has submitted information through this scamming site to monitor or freeze their credit.

The only legitimate place to purchase a hunting and fishing license online in the State of Tennessee is at https://gooutdoorstennessee.com/.
