Dowelltown Christmas City Lights Contest Underway

Residents of Dowelltown are encouraged to participate in the annual Christmas City Lights Contest.
First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded for “Best Scene Overall”, and first and second place prizes will go to winners of the “Best Door/Porch” and “Best Window”.
Participants must reside in the City of Dowelltown and have their Christmas lights on for display nightly through December 20 between the hours of 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Homes will be judged at different times.
Winners will be announced and prizes awarded on December 21
This event is sponsored by DTC Communications, Wilson Bank & Trust, and by Liberty State Bank.

Christmas would be a great time to adopt a pet and the DeKalb Animal Shelter has the perfect one for you.
Meet “Pepper”!
“Pepper is four months old. She came to the shelter as an orphan and has been here since August. We really want to get this baby adopted. Pepper is playful and full of energy and she gets along well with other cats. In fact she prefers having another cat to play with. Pepper is very sociable with tons of energy and she is ready to go home with you so stop by and meet Pepper,” said Shelter employee Emmaly Bennett.

Stop by the animal shelter, call 615-597-3647 (DOGS), or visit facebook. The shelter is currently open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 12-4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 12 noon. Closed Wednesday.

Smithville Man Charged with Sexual Exploitation of Minor

A Smithville man caught with images of children engaging in sexual activity has been arrested.
67 year old Rick Allen Meurer of West Main Street, Smithville is charged with 2 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
The warrants allege that on December 10 Meurer knowingly possessed one image of a minor female child (in one case) and a minor male child (in the other case) engaged in sexual activity. Meurer admitted to having possession of the images.
His bond totals $30,000 and he will make a court appearance December 19.
